FRASER VALLEY REALTORS® CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
The Fraser Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation is looking for a volunteer to serve on our Board of Directors.
The FVRCF had its beginnings over 50 years ago with the foresight of five former Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB) presidents. In 1969, these individuals personally purchased 3.6 acres of land and, years later, sold this land to the FVREB for their original purchase price, with explicit instructions that the property be used for the benefit of the community.
Today, the proceeds from the sale of that very property have been endowed and make up the assets of the Foundation. The interest generated from the endowment will be used to benefit the communities of Surrey, North Delta, Langley, Abbotsford, Mission, and White Rock, in perpetuity.
In particular, the Fraser Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation has identified as its mission, the support of marginalized and vulnerable youth.
Currently, seven volunteers serve as Directors on the Board and are supported by a part-time Executive Director. Six directors are REALTORS and one is considered a ‘Public Director’ (i.e. not a REALTOR). The FVRCF is seeking an additional public director, specifically with accounting skills, for a 3-year term beginning in May 2023.
Terms of Reference for the Board of Directors include the following responsibilities:
The FVRCF Board of Directors meet bi-monthly for approximately 2 hours. Directors often sit on one or two additional committees, most of which also meet bi-monthly. As someone with an accounting background, we would ask this director to sit on the Finance Committee.
Individual Directors also have the following individual responsibilities:
Perhaps most importantly, a prospective Director should feel a connection to the vision and mission of the Foundation – that the Fraser Valley is a safe and inspiring place where marginalized and vulnerable youth have safe, healthy, and stable places to live, learn and work. A place where youth can participate fully in opportunities which will positively shape their lives, while empowering them to support their own communities in meaningful ways.
It is a very exciting time to be a part of the Fraser Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation. In the Spring of 2023, the Foundation will be launching its first round of grants. Local eligible charities working directly with at-risk youth will be invited to apply for up to $100,000 in funds.
