Gannett Fleming’s downtown Toronto Office is looking for a Civil Design Engineer/Junior Project Manager to support project delivery and business development efforts for clients across the Greater Toronto Area.
We are looking for a self-starter who will work with a highly functioning, entrepreneurial, autonomous team and be responsible for providing design services and managing coordination for various projects.
The successful candidate will mainly support our Roadway Project Manager on planning and preliminary design opportunities for roadway, transit and rail projects while having the opportunity to work with our detailed design team on municipal, MTO, and transit facility projects.
Project types may include feasibility study, Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), Municipal Class Environment Assessment (MCEA), and technical advisory (TA) to major clients on trans-formative projects in the GTA.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Acts as assistant project manager/coordinator for relevant projects, tasks, and other assignments for municipal, provincial, and transit clients in Ontario.
Assists the project manager with general project management activities, including monitoring and controlling scope, schedule, and cost.
Supports the project manager on technical design management for transit/municipal roadway projects while pro-actively engaging with other disciplines to prepare high-quality, technically efficient, and cost-effective solutions.
Develops effective communication and working relationship with the client. · Performs technical designs and evaluation for various civil designs and related infrastructure.
Performs civil scope of larger multidisciplinary assignments which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related design engineering tasks.
Applies planning and design manuals and guidelines to determine functional requirements and draft design drawings and documents
Prepares high-complexity plans and details to support broader optioneering activities.
Prepares technical reports or sections of larger multidisciplinary reports.
Utilizes software to Develop 3D models and engineering plans.
Acts as the gatekeeper to internal and external project management tools, such as meeting minutes, action logs, and other project document control elements. ·
Support business development efforts in assisting the proposal preparation process.
EDUCATION AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineering license required in Ontario.
TRAINING, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR EXPERIENCE
5 – 8 + years of relevant technical experience.
Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Power-Point, and Outlook).
Proven experience in full life-cycle of detailed design, including creating contract drawings and packages.
Technical knowledge in civil, roads & transit facilities design.
Knowledge of industry standards, permitting/approval processes, and various delivery models
Experience with Micro-Station & Auto-CAD required.
Experience with Inroads, Open Roads Designer and/or Civil 3D
Experience in transportation planning, including the feasibility and preliminary design of new or enhanced BRT, LRT, roads, and highway facilities.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
