What You Will Do:
Gannett Fleming’s Environmental Management & Natural Resources Team is seeking a highly motivated Principal Environmental Scientist/Engineer to spearhead business development for the geo-environmental group based out of our Toronto office. The ideal candidate should have prior experience working in the consulting industry as a “Seller-Doer,” leveraging their contacts and clients in the geo-environmental field and their established reputation in the sector to drive business growth and revenue. The role can also involve providing technical expertise for complex contaminated sites for various assignments across a diverse client base.
The high demand and growth of geo-environmental services (e.g., environmental site assessments (ESAs), excess soil management, remediation, risk assessment, hydrogeology) in the Canadian market is why we are seeking a Principal Environmental Scientist/Engineer to join our team. Duties and responsibilities will include:
Leading business development initiatives and teaming for pursuits with public and private clients across various markets and sectors. This includes marketing and preparing technical and cost proposals.
Expanding existing client relationships by highlighting Gannett Fleming’s service offerings, industry presence and competent staff.
Acting as a key contributor to sales/business development strategy, optimization of service delivery and management of accounts.
Meet corporate, revenue, profitability and sales goals
Providing principal-level leadership to geo-environmental staff.
Providing quality control of project deliverables to ensure that it meets or exceeds client expectations.
Maintaining a strong understanding of regulatory requirements in Ontario and other provinces in Canada.
Performing project management duties, such as developing statements of services, cost proposals and managing financial and other project records.
Leading environmental analysis for multi-discipline design projects for various markets (e.g., transportation, water, and facilities).
Acting as a liaison with other internal design disciplines, subconsultants, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
Leading a wide range of meetings with potential clients.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, environmental engineering, hydrogeology or geology. A Master’s degree is desired but not required.
20 years of experience in the field of environmental science or engineering in Ontario and an established subject matter expert.
Designation as a Qualified Person (i.e., P. Geo. or P.Eng. in relevant field in Ontario) under O. Reg. 153/04, based on education, training and professional experience is an asset.
Strong track record of leading and achieving profitable growth
Strong track record of executing geo-environmental projects (e.g. Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, Excess Soil Management, Remediation, Risk Assessment), ideally as the Qualified Person
Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary environmental projects with multiple services and accelerated schedules
Minimum 10 years of project management experience.
Extensive knowledge of applicable provincial and federal environmental regulations.
Successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate within a team environment.
Strong data evaluation and reporting capabilities and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Willing to travel to project sites, as required, for client meetings and presentations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Valid driver’s license in Ontario.
