Job Description
The HR business partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and leadership in designated business unit(s). The HRBP serves as a consultant to leadership and employees on human resources-related issues. The HRBP assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with leadership and the People Team, seeking to develop integrated solutions. The HRBP formulates partnerships to deliver value-added service to leadership and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit s financial position, strategic plans, culture, clients and competition.
Essential Functions:
Consults with and supports leadership in talent acquisition, engagement and retention of top talent.
Interprets employment-related policies for leadership and employees; and partners with operational leaders in ensuring compliance with employment-related laws and regulations.
Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
Manages and resolves routine employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
Develops strategies and procedures to continuously improve effectiveness and efficiency of the People function; and completes a wide variety of projects and activities relating to People and the company s strategic initiatives.
Shares important data insights with business unit leadership. Recommends critical measurements and associated reporting and tracking report formats for continual improvement.
Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the People Team to develop solutions, programs and policies.
Promotes the company s philosophy and values; encourages teamwork by coaching and providing support in the business unit(s) and throughout the organization.
Canadian-employment law and compliance subject matter expert. Maintains a strong, current knowledge of employment-related legal and regulatory requirements, such as employment laws, wage and hour, employee benefits, EEO, and other related areas.
Participates in cross functional team projects to ensure the growth and development of the company and success in meeting the goals established in the strategic plan.
Supports Learning and Organizational Development with identifying training needs for business unit(s), including the evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs.
Partners with company-wide People team members on projects and initiatives as needed and in alignment with the company and team s strategic plan.
Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in Business or Psychology with an emphasis in Human Resources Management or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Five or more years of Human Resources Generalist experience working with multiple provinces in Canada, including Ontario.
Current knowledge, continuing education and training in Human Resources policies and practices, provincial employment laws, staffing practices and procedures.
Proficient in computers, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of HRIS software is required.
Ability to successfully consult with leaders and employees exerting influence in pressure-filled situations while maintaining and strengthening relationships.
Ability to successfully balance and work through risk-mitigation, compliance, business operations and goal achievement in situations where conflicts arise.
Focused on doing the right thing, while embracing a consulting mindset in engaging with others with various perspectives and objectives.
Must be detail-oriented and able to work with numerous interruptions.
Must be able to work effectively both independently and with others.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Tethered by a strong sense of ethics.
Must have strong problem-solving, planning, negotiation and analytical skills.
Must be able to exercise confidentiality and good discretionary judgment.
Certificates/Licenses Required
Valid driver s license and auto insurance required.
Valid passport with ability to obtain and maintain authorization to travel between the U.S. and Canada.
Desired Qualifications
HRCI certification (aPHRi, PHRi, SPHRi, GPHR)
A/E/C or similar consulting industry experience
