Autonomous and Automated Driving Systems Specialist

The Opportunity
Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) group is responsible for the definition, design, and development of General Motors’ continuously improving mobility services. SDV is the new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! This space is ripe with technical leadership opportunities for advanced technology development, as well as the ability to provide mentorship for new employees. You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering, IT, and the business.
The Systems Engineer will lead the architecture and requirements development for systems related to the next-generation of Connected Vehicle, Automated Driving (L2+) and Autonomous (L4) technologies being developed at GM. They will develop deep knowledge related to their system and be considered the technical expert for system design and performance. The utilization of ‘systems level thinking’ will be key in this role. We are looking for a highly energetic and creative thinker who is addicted to an attention to detail. Key Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of systems development such as requirements definition, analysis and development of their applicable system
System Technical Specification development along with FMEA will be the fundamental aspects of the position.
Implement new feature and functions, perform hands-on testing and issue triage, support development of necessary tools and perform performance analysis as needed.
Support Tier 1 & 2 development of these technologies into GM products
Create mechanization drawing with assistance from architecture team
Create and maintain applicable system/subsystem/component software specifications in IBM DOORS Next Generation (DNG)
Lead/participate in software peer reviews to ensure compliance to requirements
Provide technical leadership for advanced technology development
Collaborate with other System Engineers and Subject Matter Experts to define and negotiate key functional and performance requirements
Root cause all applicable system related issues during testing and validation
Communicates information to both internal and external stakeholders
Ensure deliverables are complete as per milestones with excellence
Responsible for compliance with GM processes and safety procedures
Represent the team globally as a key stakeholder to the product
Support and/or lead activities for customer outreach and education in these technologies and their respective use cases
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Advanced degrees preferred
Required Skills:
5 or more years of experience with automotive or similar electronic modules and/or systems engineering
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces
Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA etc.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
High level of oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues local and at remote sites
Basic project management skills
Comfortable with ambiguity and has a passion to shape the future
Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
Cumulative travel requirements of 2 to 6 weeks a year are typical, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US
Creative, disciplined, strong sense of responsibility, delivery and schedule commitment
Preferred Skills:
Understanding of System architecture (controls, protections and monitoring) definition and validation;
Understanding of major automotive vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Network, and Powertrain
Experience in performing system and component level DFMEAs
DFSS Blackbelt certification
Design/Development of safety critical systems/components (ISO26262 or aerospace equivalent – ARP4764/DO-178C)
Experience in Scrum methodology and the software development lifecycle.
Experience with creation Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Cause Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports
Experience in automotive product release and specification process
