SDV Software Integration Build/Release – Engineering Group Manager

As a leader in the SDV Software Integration organization you will have the opportunity to work directly with GM’s next generation Active Safety controllers.
The team you build and lead will deliver key critical controller packages the enable critical functionality for several current and future global programs. You will apply your experience in DevOps, software development, automation, build, and deployment to help optimize our existing agile process to ensure continuous integration and continuous delivery of our controller builds.
Responsibilities: Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for engineering deliverables in support of the organization’s business objectives. Manages engineering execution of team as related to the Vehicle Development Process deliverables. Provides technical leadership to work team. Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally. Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures. Leads team to meet targets. Reviews and approves engineering documentation, e.g. requirements, documents.
Hiring: Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team.
Communicating: Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, Communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages. Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities. May include preparing and giving presentations.
Training & Developing: Insures employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility. Understands & supports employee’s career development goals. Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity.
Assigning Work: Assigns and manages workload for direct reports. Sets individual employee and group priorities.
Monitoring & Approving GM Records: Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data.
Evaluating Performance and Behaviors: Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback. Conducts performance interventions when necessary.
Recognition: Formally & informally recognizes employee’s contributions. Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employee’s as appropriate. Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment.
Removing Roadblocks & Resolving Issues/Complaints: Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and lead a highly engaged team focused on the build and integration of Active Safety and Automated Driving controller software to enable key features such as SuperCruise and UltraCruise
Liaise with other GM leaders across the globe to ensure that critical functionality is achieved while also optimizing processes/delivery
Ensure this engineering group transitions quickly and efficiently into SAFe and the targeted ART(s) as required
Ensure team members are well positioned to meet cost, quality, and timing of deliverables
Create development and learning opportunities for employees and drive high levels of engagement
Identify and pursue new opportunities for the team to add value
Support recruiting, lead hiring and conduct performance reviews
Forecast and meet annual budget for the group
Additional Job Description
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science
3+ years of direct people leadership experience (Coaching, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, etc.)
3+ years managing Software Development Engineering teams
Experience leading DevOps initiatives for complex cyber-physical systems
Experience building a highly engaged and productive Engineering team
Experience with automation, embedded controllers, DevOps, and SAFe/Agile Development
Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with many team members local and remote
Aside from COVID restrictions, 1-2 days worth of business travel to Michigan is anticipated per month
