GN Corporations Looking for Manufacturing Estimator at Airdrie, AB Full Time

The Manufacturing Estimator of GN Corporations Inc. (GN) prepares accurate scopes of work and estimates projects cost and timeline by gathering information and analyzing important metrics utilizing inputs from customers and suppliers, available historical data, and industry best practices. When developing estimates, the incumbent strictly follows all applicable safety regulations, industry standards, codes, and other laws.

Specific Functions

As a key member of the Manufacturing team, will be working directly with Marketing and Sales to understand the customer requirements for quoting package, the Estimator compiles and analyzes in details information about immediate and long-term customer needs, as well as materials, equipment and labor resources needed for a project and prepares materials, outside service (Contracted work), labor, end equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out quoting package.

GN’s Manufacturing Estimator duties and responsibilities include, but is not limited to, the following:

• Review customer inquiries, specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents to estimate.
• Use of automated quoting software.
• Prepare and coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates (Raw material to Finish product)
• Prepare estimates in a timely manner to meet the customer requested date.
• Stay up to date on addendum, drawing and special requirements revision for submitting an accurate and up to date estimation
• Prepare changes to costs estimates when customers change their plans, or when the availability of materials or labor changes
• Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect cost, design unknowns, escalation, contingency and mitigation
• Conduct research to estimate labor cost and other estimates
• Advise GN team about the most cost-effective ways to manufacture product
• Advise on proposal procedures to follow
• Coordinate activities within the team with Manufacturing Engineering, Application Engineering, Tooling Department, Material Engineer, NDI Quality Engineer, and Mechanical Designer for complete and accurate estimations
• Provide support on projects details to the Manager, Manufacturing Team, and Operations Teams
• Review the prepared estimates with the Manager and discuss success scope and challenges
• Working with Supply chain team/suppliers clearly define the scope of work of their service and obtain accurate quotations
• Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
• Research new and existing processes, materials, costs, and suppliers to ensure best cost and delivery estimation
• Study and analyze proposals received from outsource suppliers
• Ensure estimations and pricing consistency by maintaining historical information and analysing data from previous similar items
• Recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts
• Review all outsource service quotations and inputs from Manufacturing Team prior to submission the project estimation
• Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to a formal submission or presentation
• Present estimates and conduct review meetings with the Manufacturing Engineering Team and internal customers
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current accurate information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, prise lists, etc.
• Support other department personnel as required which may include preparing estimates for other disciplines
• Recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, materials, and equipment availability
• Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required
• Assist in preparation of studies, materials, methods, recommendations, and cost estimates, as required
• Attend pre-production and post-production meetings, as well as product manufacturing on the shop floor to evaluate previously provided proposals and recognize the impact on the company’s performance
• Create and provide detailed reports
• Develop strong working relationships with outsource suppliers, piers, and internal customers such as Marketing and Sales, Planning, and Operations teams.
• Assist corporate and project management teams to determine what type of projects to bid on
• Participate and coordinate company risks and opportunities evaluations
• Support and contribute to business development goals
• Generate leads for new business
• Train and guide resources as needed
• Provide process engineering information by answering questions and requests
• Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
• Maintain product and process database by writing associated computer programs, entering, and organizing data
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

• Industry Standards and Regulations – Be familiar with all relevant industry standards, recommended practices and regulations. Monitor self-compliance with company, industry, environment, and government requirements as well as promote their acceptance in all aspects of company business.

Minimum Job Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering
• Six Sigma certification is an asset

• 5-10 years’ experience in CNC machine tools manufacturing environment
• Experience with Six Sigma process improvement projects
• Experience in CAD/CAM (SolidWorks, PDM, Esprit)
• Experience with estimation software
• Capable of creating and managing database
• Experience with Microsoft Office tools
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001, AS9100D, IATF 16949 is advantageous
