Senior Accountant
Permanent Full Time
With a demonstrated commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd, the Senior Accountant works as a member of a dynamic team of individuals that provide accounting support to the whole organization. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, this position is responsible for ensuring financial transactions are accurate and adhere to established approval and control processes. Primary duties include preparation of government remittances, management of donations, posting of invoices and deposits, month-end GL account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, bank reconciliations, and analysis of program financial data. The position also involves assisting in the preparation of year-end audit working papers and providing backup and support of multiple accounting functions, as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of general full cycle accounting work experience, a university or college degree in accounting or finance, a solid understanding of GAAP, and proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel functions. Experience working in the non-profit charitable sector and using Dynamics Great Plains are assets. Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish positive working relationships are all essential competencies.
