We are looking for a full-time Financial Accountant. As a key member of the Finance team, you will be reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant. In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues in Finance and support Directors and Managers in other Administrative departments to help monitor and report on the firm’s operations. You will be responsible for preparing, presenting, and maintaining financial information for management in accordance with the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and the firm’s best practices.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Complete month-end close activities including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of bank accounts, and maintenance of balance sheet account subledgers and supporting schedules (e.g. prepaid assets, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, HST payable).
  • Prepare budget-to-actual analyses of expense and capital spending for Directors and Managers in other Administrative departments and address their queries.
  • Monitor the allocation of costs for specified expense and capital accounts, and liaise with Accounts Payable and other Administrative departments to ensure accurate accounting and allocation of costs.
  • Prepare detailed analyses and allocations for annual forecast and budget activities.
  • Manage the compilation and system entry for annual forecast and budget templates.
  • Build relationships with colleagues and firm members to promote collaboration and effective information sharing.
  • Assist in the annual external audit of the financial statements as requested.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and implementation of new processes and applications as requested.
  • Complete special projects as requested, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • University degree or equivalency in business or accounting
  • 3 or more years’ experience in a financial or accounting role
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Basic proficiency in role-specific software including 3E and Sage Fixed Assets is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of commitment, accountability, and self-management
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Experience in a professional services environment is an asset
