Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Traffic Safety Services, the Executive Director, Carrier & Vehicle Safety is responsible for providing a safe and efficient transportation system to support Alberta’s economic, social and environmental vitality though the effective operation of key programs.
The Executive Director is responsible for promoting safety through strategic direction and delivery of programs for several regulated industries in Alberta: commercial truck and bus carriers, vehicle inspection technicians and facilities as well as provincial railways. They will also ensure that Albertans receive up-to-date and accurate roadway and emergency information.
A key component of this role will be leading the development of policy work and legislation related to emerging technologies such as automated vehicles, hydrogen fueling and micro mobility. Agility and change management skills will be crucial to ensure timely access to permitting, licensing and approval services in order to keep industry working. Issues arising within this branch can be high profile and high impact, therefore diplomacy and responsiveness will be vital.
As the successful candidate, you are recognized for your senior leadership experience along with previous success in driving high profile initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. Your background includes a solid record of stakeholder collaboration and engagement, strengths in policy and program development along with significant, innovative change management. “Progressive,” “innovative” and “collaborative” are all words that describe you well. Knowledge of the policy development cycle, including implementation and evaluation within the provincial government context along with an understanding of government accountability mechanisms and performance management systems will be key to your success.
Experience in the transportation industry would be considered an asset.
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
$4,861.49 – $6,388.91 Bi-weekly ($126,885 – $166,751 yearly)
