The Policy Analyst will conduct research and analysis, develop policy options and recommendations, evaluate implications and alternatives, and draft briefings, presentations, and other written materials to address issues and policy needs.
To be successful, you must be able to work independently, collaborate in teams with diverse perspectives, and build common understanding from potentially disparate facts and knowledge. You will carry out critical analysis, conduct research, communicate professionally and clearly in written and oral formats, and have knowledge of policy development and decision-making processes, as well as environmental and regulatory issues. This position requires competencies in project management, problem solving, systems thinking and building collaborative relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
Analyzing issues and conducting research to verify facts and information, developing advice, and proposing options and recommendations to policy/program areas and executives.
Advancing the Ministry’s and GOA’s goals through the development of policy and legislation
Providing support to enhance policy systems for integration
Providing support and cross-Ministry coordination in strategic policy initiatives
Qualifications
Requirements:
University Degree in Public Administration, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Business, Social Sciences, or a related field
2 years of related work experience in legislative research, developing operational policies and providing secretariat support to a counsel.
Equivalencies may be considered on a one-for-one basis.
Assets include:
Strong knowledge of Alberta’s environmental and sustainable resource development issues.
Strong knowledge of government’s role, structure, policies and procedures, particularly those related to policy formation, regulatory reform and legislation development, planning and accountability.
Awareness of department’s legislative framework (particularly the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Public Lands Act, Responsible Energy Development Act, Alberta Land Stewardship Act)
Knowledge of policy development and research, planning, and evaluation methodologies and tools.
Knowledge of project management and strategic planning methodologies
Excellent communication skills to clearly present and convey ideas in written products and oral presentations or briefings tailored to diverse audiences, and the ability to listen for understanding.

Salary
$2,556.10 to $3,355.81 biweekly ($66,714 to $87,586 per year)
