About Our Opportunity
Under the general supervision of the Manager, the Family Justice Navigator is responsible for the delivery of the Family Justice Navigation Program within a designated regional area. Responsibilities include maintaining an effective communication network with Justice, community and government officials at the regional level, coordinating services for victims of intimate partner violence within the family justice system and the community, monitoring and recommending intervention strategies to address identified gaps in service at the community level, supporting victims for access to justice, and providing referrals to culturally appropriate resources. A high level of judgement, independent decision-making and discretion is required in exercising the duties of the Family Justice Navigator in accordance with the policies and procedures and best practices set out by the division.
Primary Accountabilities
Maintains a caseload of highly sensitive files; conducts client needs assessments and develops intervention plans and referrals, including short term counselling, emotional support, suicide intervention, safety planning, court orientation; provides referrals for: legal advice, financial assistance, safe housing, long term counselling; ensures provision of information regarding the family justice system/process as well as specific information on case status; provides assistance in submitting documents.
Liaises with family justice partners and other relevant departments such as Department of Community Services, Mental Health, and community organizations in the development, delivery, coordination and enhancement of services to support victims of intimate partner violence. Ensures client service information is accurately recorded; maintains an accurate file record in each case and ensures the confidentiality of all information.
Maintains a sound working knowledge of all relevant legislation and of the policies and procedures and directives governing the program and applies them accordingly.
Promotes diversity, a healthy workplace, and teamwork through ongoing education, communication and support to colleagues, victims and families.
Completes mandatory training as required.
Contributes to the development of the division’s strategic, business and training plans by providing input and feedback to the Manager.
Provides input to management on operational policy/procedures and Family Justice Navigation Program policy development, informing system changes; develops/presents and/or participates in training/presentations and special projects related to the Family Justice Navigation Program.
Qualifications And Experience
You possess a Bachelor’s degree (typically in the Social Sciences) and three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Related experience includes (but is not limited to) providing client services in the community.
In this role, you are required to have experience in client assessment and interviewing techniques, as well as case management and computer skills. Your knowledge of the justice system and community resources is essential.
Our successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational ability and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team. You will demonstrate empathy, warmth and tact along with an in-depth understanding of human dynamics and the effects of victimization. Sound judgment and the ability to work with self-confidence and decisiveness are also important in this role.
Access to reliable transportation is required.
The ability to speak French would be considered an asset.
The above qualifications will be assessed using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Salary Range: $2,446.01 – $2,967.83 Bi-Weekly
