The Infrastructure Planning and Priorities branch of the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement is recruiting a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Asset Management team as an Assessment Engineer. The Asset Management team conducts building condition assessments of facilities to assist in planning for long-term renewal. The types of buildings involved include health-care facilities, schools, correctional centres, office buildings, court houses, laboratories, museums and art galleries, and include historic properties across the province.
As part of the Asset Management team, the successful candidate will have the confidence and experience to research, assess, develop, and implement building component inspections, assessments, and cost estimating. This position is tasked with the responsibility to coordinate, implement and assess provincial facilities to provide data that reports on the ministry’s facility condition metrics.
The successful candidate will be professional engineer or an engineer-in-training, eligible for registration in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and have a minimum two (2) years of experience in a related field of work. One of the following disciplines are required:
Civil, Structural, Architectural or Building Engineer.
Mechanical or Industrial Systems Engineer.
Electrical or Electronics Systems Engineer.
You will have knowledge of:
Building’s design, construction and operations;
Facilities management and project planning;
Facilities development, engineering and construction techniques;
Ability to understand construction drawings; accessibility acts and regulations (BASA);
National Building Code of Canada (NBCC);
National Energy Code for Buildings in Canada (NECB);
Canadian Electrical Code (CEC);
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); and
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
You will have the demonstrated ability to:
Clearly define complex problems and clarify data;
Collect and analyze relevant data to develop innovative solutions to problems and issues;
Verbally and in writing, clearly, accurately and courteously explain issues, policies and procedures referencing legislation and other information to clients and co-workers at a level applicable to the audience;
Establish and maintain effective productive working relationships with client groups including industry, other government personnel and the public;
Effectively manage and organize resources and activities to deal with changing priorities and tight deadlines;
Work independently and as a contributing member of a variety of teams to complete work assignments, achieve common goals and contribute towards a positive working environment;
Stay current with trends and issues that might impact the ministry and clients;
Plan for the future that aligns and uses resources to meet long term strategic goals by researching, assessing, developing and implementing building components inspections and assessments;
Utilize a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite;
Knowing Microsoft Access and database programming is an asset; and
Having a building official license is an asset.
