Job duties:
– Maintain complete sets of books, keep records of accounts, verify the procedures used for recording financial transactions.
– Keep financial records and efficiently establish, maintain, and balance various accounts using accounting software such as Quickbooks, Advanced Excel – Pivot table etc., to track and manage the business’s expense reports, invoices, and inventory.
– Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements.
– Payroll management, calculate and prepare payroll on bi-monthly basis with ADP.
– Verify and post invoices for payments, process Accounts Payable report to the director who makes payments.
– Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers’ compensation forms, pension contribution forms, annual T4 slips for all employees and other government documents.
– Reconcile annual payroll liabilities to CRA for any under or overpayment.
– Reconcile corporate tax returns once they have been prepared by external accountant.
– Prepare monthly management reports and on-the-spot reports based on live data to identify business performance, including statistical and historical financial data.
– Work with external accountant on financial matters.
Experience: 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience, with at least some in the consumer retail sector.
Education: College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1-2 years in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field or completion of two years (first level) of a recognized professional accounting program or the equivalent in work experience.
Skills requirements:
– Thorough knowledge pertaining to bookkeeping for an Ontario-registered business, tax, payroll and health benefits administration.
– Thorough knowledge about financial topics and accounting terms.
– Attention to detail, constant striving for accuracy.
– Ability to manage time and entire workflow on one’s own, not as a member of a bookkeeping team.
– Ability and willingness to share relevant insights into our financial data gained from an intimate knowledge of it, including recognition of negative/positive patterns, inefficiencies, areas for potential cost-savings, and cost/benefit analysis.
– Excellent proficiency in Quick Books and MS Excel.
