Growcer is an innovative agri-tech startup launched in Ottawa in 2015, specializing in the manufacturing and design of modular hydroponic systems that enable commercial food production in plug-and-play 40 ft. modules. About the Role
The Logistics and Procurement Manager will build, establish, and execute end-to-end supply chain, logistics and procurement processes, as we scale up manufacturing of new farms. You will be in charge of building a team to carry out the following responsibilities: identifying suppliers, negotiating, buying, placing and delivery of purchase orders, warehouse management, inbound and outbound deliveries, arranging transportation and overseeing the timely delivery of materials needed to fulfill customer orders.
This role will require you to be extremely hands-on, organized, and able to operate well under pressure. While your job will be to set up and monitor people and processes, you’re not shy to roll up your sleeves and “get in the weeds” when required.

Responsibilities
Procurement & Logistics
Identify, negotiate and manage relationships with suppliers and logistics carriers;
Lead material requirement planning and drive flexible, responsive and innovative supply chain processes across Canada;
Coordinate with vendors to maintain a clear overview of all product and delivery schedules, with processes to anticipate possible issues;
Develop and manage quality control systems with new and existing suppliers;
Overseeing the return of defective or unwanted products and support root cause analysis with the supplier;
Ensure the timely delivery of goods so that business operations can flow optimally;
In the medium-term, develop and execute a strategy to outsource some/all of the fulfillment of small goods to 3PL;
Contact suppliers in order to negotiate contracts and preferred pricing for certain services, goods and bulk raw materials;
Implement storage procedures, such as shelf-life and automated re-order points for certain inventory items to make sure our stock is optimized;
Drive cost-saving initiatives and make buying decisions under conditions of scarcity;
Source and review suppliers to find cost efficiencies within existing products and across product families;
Develop timelines for the delivery of items, so that production or special projects can proceed as smoothly as possible;
Ensure compliance with export and import regulations between the US and Canada.
Manufacturing
Manage forecasting and the supply of raw materials and parts to our contract manufacturer in Manitoba, including ordering and drop-shipping directly from vendors;
Manage schedule and QA systems for contract manufacturing suppliers
Functional Management & Team Leadership
Create and deliver on key Supply Chain KPIs and monitor them on a regular basis
Accountable for managing the HQ inventory in Ottawa
Track annual spending on the item and category level and implement an annual savings target
Manage a team of 1 or 2 direct reports
Establish processes to ensure streamlined collaboration between internal teams, including Customer Success and Technical Support, and any colleagues that are regularly ordering parts and inventory for special projects.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, with a desire of streamlining processes and driving efficiencies whenever possible.
Required Skills & Competencies
5+ years of experience managing end-to-end supply chain, logistics, warehouse management, procurement and material planning
Expertise in managing suppliers, inventory, purchasing, warehousing and transportation
Experience building teams and developing talent, ideally in a retail or manufacturing environment
Previous experience in a start-up environment preferred
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills in English
Experienced in ERP and/ or Inventory and Supply orders software (Growcer uses FishBowl Inventory)
Strong problem-solving skills and proactive attitude
Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
Ability to take ownership and work towards tight deadlines
High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality control
Adaptable and flexible personality that thrives in a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
Experience in working with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
Ability to work autonomously and manage own priorities
Must be able to legally work in Canada and willing to work an average of 3 days per week in person at Growcer HQ (891 Boyd Ave., Ottawa)
After Hours Requirements:
Very infrequently, after hours support may be required by customers for emergency issues
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to comfortably lift 50 pounds individually, as well as lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
