Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Lead- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion the EDI Intern will support the development of an Equity Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct research on issues that relate to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Support the development of an Equity Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
Gather and synthesize data and information.
Prepare briefing notes, memos, report summaries and resource materials, as required.
Conduct environmental scans and prepare summary reports of findings.
Respond to research requests.
Attend and assist in meetings or training events, as required
Other duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Post-secondary degree in a program related to equity, diversity and inclusion or relevant courses that explored EDI content
Lived experience and identification with one or more marginalized or equity-deserving groups including Indigenous and Black people, other racialized people, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQi2S+ communities and women.
Strong research, analytical and communication skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively with others
Able to prioritize competing work demands and remain self-motivated
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion knowledge, best practices, and human rights legislation.
Possess a working knowledge and understanding of municipal and other levels of government.
Possess excellent time management skills and be able to manage competing work demands in order to complete work on time and as expected.
Exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred
Previous personal or professional experience working with matters supporting equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice , anti-oppression and anti-racism.
Project management knowledge and experience.
Experience in public speaking, facilitation or training
Working/ Employment Conditions
