Job Description

Without the strength of our accounting team, we wouldn’t be able to offer the industry-leading service we’re known for. We’re seeking an experienced accountant who will oversee the accounting operations of our growing group of companies who will report to the Chief Financial Officer. The ideal candidate will have proven construction industry experience as an accountant, preferably in a senior role.

Objectives of this Role

· Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and reported in a timely fashion.

· Play an active role in helping to develop and implement the company’s overall accounting strategy.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

· Responsible for full accounting cycle using the Jonas Construction Accounting software and Excel, including A/R, A/P,G/L, as well as month end reconciliations and government remittances (HST’ EHT & WSIB)

· Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory and loan agreement requirements

· Prepare financial statements for management and external reporting purposes such as tax returns, banking covenant requirements

• Preparing reports on company performance including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses
• Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, and actual expenditures
• Prepare year-end reconciliations and documentation required by the external accountants
• In conjunction with the CFO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards on a monthly, and annual basis
• Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
• Responsible for compliance with government reporting requirements and tax filings (HST, WSIB, Payroll, EHT)

Skills and Preferred Qualifications

· University or College degree in business, accounting, or related field

· At least 5+ years of proven accounting and financial experience

· Working knowledge of finance and accounting regulatory standards

· Good understanding of economic and banking processes

· Proficiency in Excel and ability to grasp new software programs

· Strong ability to work effectively in a team

· Proactive, creative approach to seeking and identifying solutions

· Hands on approach

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong attention to details and strong analytical skills

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
