Role Summary
Health Quality BC provides system-wide leadership to efforts designed to improve the quality of health care in British Columbia. Through collaborative partnerships with health authorities, patients, and those working within the health care system, we promote and inform a provincially-coordinated, patient-centred approach to quality.
The Engagement Leader is responsible for leading work within HQBC’s patient and public engagement strategy. This includes planning and coordinating activities that promote and support people and community involvement in health system design, improvement and transformation. This role works in collaboration with diverse partners including health authorities, physician collaborative committees, NGOs, universities and other partners. Reporting to the Director, Patient & Public Engagement, the Engagement Leader will work as part of a team to develop the patient and public engagement strategy, which includes cultivating and supporting an environment for health organizations to authentically partner with people and communities to advance health quality.

Qualifications
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Health Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, or Health Management and five (5) years of experience in program evaluation, community capacity building, or a health related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid BC Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record and access to a reliable vehicle is essential.

Knowledge of the provincial and Canadian health care system, including demonstrated experience working with First Nations and Aboriginal communities. Exceptional facilitation and public presentation skills, and knowledge of adult education models. Ability in using a variety of influence styles and tactics appropriate to the context to influence thinking, attitudes and behaviors. Ability to anticipate obstacles, use logic to make conclusions and develop an appropriate course of action. Ability to work a flexible schedule with occasional travel within the region, including travel to attend planning meetings. Proven leadership abilities, including relationship building, negotiation, tactful and diplomatic communications skills, conflict management and consensus-building. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
