Reporting to the Manager of Stakeholder Relations, the Regulatory and Permitting Advisor is a key member of Heartland Generation’s Battle River Carbon Hub (BRCH) project team.
The Advisor will play a key role in identifying, advancing and tracking regulatory and permitting requirements for the various components BRCH project – hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and power generation. This role will work alongside other members of the project team and Heartland Generation staff to support the technical components of the BRCH project.
The BRCH project is in the early stages of development, and the successful candidate will be required contribute to a variety of project plans, and provide expertise on permitting requirements and pathways in support of the project. This includes work to integrate regulatory and permitting requirements into the project schedule, contributing to project development activities, and working with regulators and permitting agencies that fall under the hydrogen, CCS, and power generation components of the project. The successful candidate will also play a role in identifying and managing regulatory risks associated with the project.
The Advisor will be required to build and maintain relationships with external and internal experts, representing the BRCH project and Heartland Generation with various regulators, permitting authorities, and contractors supporting the project.
What you’ll be doing:
- Support the goals of the Energy Transition team by contributing to key project deliverables including regulatory and permitting plans.
- Work collaboratively with third party consultants to deliver on project requirements and support their work so that it can be integrated in the overall project.
- Working directly with various regulatory bodies and permitting agencies to advance elements of the BRCH project (hydrogen production, CCS, and power generation).
- Act as a liaison across Heartland Generation business units, working collaboratively with other areas of the company to support BRCH project activities and other energy transition work.
- Develop strong, high trust relationships within the organization at all levels.
What you must have:
- A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience as a regulatory professional in projects and consulting
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related discipline
- Proven track record of managing multifaceted projects or programs
- Experience engaging with regulatory and permitting authorities on major energy projects
- Well-rounded technical background with a capacity to contribute to a broad range of technical topics
- Skilled at collaborating with diverse teams across functional and reporting boundaries, internally and externally
- Strong attention to detail and ability to distill and report on complex subjects
- Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism and enthusiasm
Where you’ll be working:
This position is located in our Head Office in Calgary, Alberta. Currently, this position is eligible for our Hybrid Work Arrangement schedule whereby some remote work from home days is optional.
