Key accountabilities:
Work with the CFO and senior leadership team to develop, implement, and accomplish strategic plans, goals, and objectives to ensure effective execution of projects.
Lead a high-performance accounting and finance team operating in multiple jurisdictions.
Communicate and collaborate with all departments and provide senior management with advice on financial implications and risk of business activities and make recommendations for mitigation.
Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to the accounting team, keeping them informed of operational performance and priorities, and providing ongoing feedback related to employee performance.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly consolidated financial statements.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to regional Controllers and the financial reporting team.
Prepare complex accounting treatment analysis when required
Develop and implement relevant key performance measures and conduct meaningful proactive analysis, reporting on them to management, to improve critical business decisions
Establish and maintain stable cash-flow management policies and procedures and ensure that cash resources are available for daily operations and business development.
Ownership of the year-end audited consolidated financial statement, including managing staff in the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
Lead the annual audit.
Ensure in good standing with all provincial and federal tax authorities
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures to improve efficiency
Work with other departments to improve information flow and data integrity issues
Establish internal control processes to manage and grow the business while anticipating and correcting problems in advance.
Ensure reliable control systems, audits, record keeping, insurance coverages and legal/regulatory requirements are in place.
Ensure appropriate insurance in place
Develop and maintain key relationships with external partners, suppliers, banks, lender, professional advisory firms, etc.
Maintain excellent relationships with the Company’s auditors and bankers, ensuring the timely flow of information both ways to enhance efficiencies and build confidence.
Other ad hoc duties as required
Ensure compliance to IFRS standards, policies, processes, and controls for all accounting activities.
Develop and implement processes, procedures and systems that improve financial operations.
Managing the month-end reporting calendar and close process.
Maintain and establish documentation of monthly procedures and practices.
Oversee the preparation of the annual budget, and monthly forecasting processes, in conjunction with the financial planning and analysis team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Canadian CPA designation with IFRS experience
10+ years of senior leadership experience in finance and administration, preferably in retail or e-commerce
Experience in a public company with multiple locations, local and international
Self-directed, detail-oriented, professional
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen focus on operational performance measures
Effective organizational and time management skills
Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
