You’ll be joining an organization focused on creating a culture of warmth, belonging, growth, teamwork and fun. The successful candidate will report to the Day Program Directors. You will assist in developing and facilitating all Day Program services. The position is full-time at 35 hours/week, Monday- Friday from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Participate in the planning and delivery of recreational, social, life skills and exercise programs that are based on participants’ interests and goals (mostly in-person with some occasional virtual/remote).
· Support participants (emotionally, physically, or as-needed) in activities on-site and around the community.
· Assist in preparing the monthly program calendar in collaboration with the team, including regular program activity evaluations. Other administrative duties as required.
· Willingness to learn and actively participate in activities. These might include crafting, playing sports, outdoor games, drawing/painting, knitting/sewing, swimming, cooking, etc. You don’t have to be skilled at these things, just be willing to support, learn, and participate.
· Participates in client assessment, documentation and reporting.
· Work closely with the client to prepare an action plan, and set goals appropriate to their employment/self-employment needs
· Provide on-the-job coaching and support.
· Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with participants, staff, students, volunteers, and families
· Assists with educating and guiding volunteers and students to understand how to support and effectively communicate with participants
· Communicate with participants, their families/caregivers, and community members in a positive and professional way
· Once you’ve received training, you should be able and willing to perform specialized tasks such as medication administration.
· Follow established policies & procedures when carrying out your duties to ensure the health and safety of participants, staff, and the community.
· Participants in Health & Safety training to maintain safety standards and practices
· Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
· Degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, recreation therapy, social service work, developmental service worker, autism and behaviour science, psychology, social work or related
· Minimum of 3 years experience in a community Adult Day Program or a similar community service agency setting for individuals with developmental disabilities, including Autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions
· Experience and comfortable with virtual programming delivery preferred.
· Food Handlers Certificate (asset)
· CPR- First Aid Certification (asset)
· Crisis Prevention Intervention certificate (CPI) (asset)
