The Manager, Special Projects (Broadband) will contribute to the development and execution of Hydro One’s Broadband plan and its related activities, building consensus, delivering results and positioning Hydro One as a trusted partner.

What is Broadband? The Government of Ontario and Government of Canada have made significant financial and legislative commitments to connect approximately 700,000 unserved and underserved homes and businesses in Ontario to highspeed internet by the end of 2025. Hydro One, in partnership with various Internet Service Providers, is a critically placed Organization assist in achieving this goal. This exciting opportunity exists to support and be part of a team who drives results on this project and executes on this commitment.

General Accountabilities:

• Operationalize the internal financial model that has been developed for the Broadband program
• Supervise and oversee the operational accounting, monthly close and reporting processes for Broadband, including the timely and accurate issuance of appropriate management reports.
• This includes actual to budget and year-over-year variance analysis for current period and year-to-date and the monthly coordination and preparation of forecasts.
• Review results and significant issues with the Director, Project Delivery (Broadband) on a proactive basis and provide recommendations for resolution ensuring the Company’s objectives are achieved.
• Develop and manage inputs to the yearly 5-year business plans and respective budgets.
• Ensure all financial, compliance, internal control and productivity objectives are achieved.
• Ensure results and recommendations are effectively communicated to senior management.
• Support regulatory requirements, including witnessing, preparation of evidence, development of briefing material, responses to interrogatories and transcript undertakings and general hearing support.
• Partner with Lines of Business to evaluate the impact of applicable industry changes, Government regulations and OEB requirements impacting operational accounting for the Broadband programLiase with the appropriate teams to understand, report and help facilitate the Broadband program variance account
• Take a leadership role in managing the various external and internal audit processes, including OEB and external financial audits. Identify and resolve issues on a proactive basis, ensuring the Company’s objectives are achieved.
• Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

• Knowledge and experience working in the Ontario’s energy sector.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong rapport and relationships with both internal and external stakeholder groups, allowing for open and construction communications and effective collaboration.
• Demonstrated ability to write clear and compelling communication materials, including, but not limited to briefing notes, submissions to government and white papers.
• Requires a good knowledge of English to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts and to prepare technical reports.
• This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four year university education in business administration or commerce with an accounting or finance major and a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) or by having the equivalent level of education.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, economics and mathematics to develop costing techniques, accounting and financial policies and regulatory policies is considered an asset.
• Thrives in an environment of rapid and continuous change.

• Requires financial experience to prepare and develop financial reporting & analysis, accounting practices and procedures.
• Requires experience to be familiar with various management systems (SAP), controls, policies, procedures, data and business processes and agreements governing Company’s activities.
• A period of over 10 years and up to and including 12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, etc.), with advanced knowledge of Excel considered an asset.
