Job Function:
Responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, assessmment, and evaluation of Transmission System Operators (TSO) and Distribution Operator (DO) training programs, which includes initial core and annual refresher training initiatives. Provide these services to System Operations Support, other Business Units, and external organizations as contracted.
Training and Development Accountabilities:
Design and develop new or revised training curriculum, documents, instructions, manuals, reference material, training aids, assessments, answer questions, and guide group sessions using a Systematic Approach to Training methodology.
Deliver training to Transmission and Distribution System Operations staff using a variety of modes of delivery (in-class, online remote, blended, asynchronous).
Revise programs, methods, training manuals, reference materials, and assessments involving working with project teams, clients, technical specialists, vendors, internal and external consultants.
Ensure efficient operation of training programs by scheduling, preparing special reports and projects, purchasing, ensuring cost and control effectiveness.
Coordinate the use of training facilities, classrooms, simulations, equipment, supplies, manuals, and reference material for internal and external individuals/groups.
Work with clients, technical specialists, suppliers, internal and external consultants to develop training programs.
Design and develop examinations, checkouts, or other forms of assessment.
Proctor and grade evaluations.
Prepare and issue confidential reports on students’ performance and capabilities according to established criteria.
Input, maintain, and query training tracking systems (ie. HOLMS) and content management systems including the Moodle LMS.
Produce, revise, and maintain training records and reports.
General Accountabilities:
Responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of System Operations core training including TSO and DO training programs for new staff and continuous training initiatives. Provide these services to other Business Units and external organizations as contracted.
Deliver TSO and DO Supervisor training.
Deliver training to enable the System Operations Mentorship Program.
Participate on a team in performing assigned responsibilities.
Assist in the development of training documentation to support technical requirements, Instructions, Procedures, Standards, and Practices.
Provide support and input to Hydro One strategic initiatives.
Review and provide feedback on new or revised documentation, processes and tools for System Operation (SO) use from the viewpoint of their training implications and operability.
Demonstrate a dedication to safety in the work place and adherence to instructional and safety training requirements.
Set and adhere to standards for training including the requirements for the SO Operator Training Programs.
Participate in the arrangements and coordination of system tests such as Voltage Reductions, System Restoration, Load Shedding, and other emergency procedures (BUCC, OPSRP, etc).
Produce, use, revise, and maintain Divisional training records, the coprorate Learning Management Systems, including the training library and scheduling capabilities.
Assign and monitor the progress of training for SO Division.
Assist the Manager in developing and measuring standards of performance for individuals involved in operator training programs. Develop scenarios for, train and evaluate staff, and manage use of the DTS Simulators.
Coordinate the use of classrooms, Training labs, the NMS Simulator, and Backup Control Centre and other facilities for staff training and external individuals/groups through the Company.
Liase with staff and contractors regarding the NMS Simulator, DMS, OMS, and other technology enhancements/architecture as required.
Coordinate and deliver Operator training through scheduled training days and on-line modules.
Provide safety, refresher, and continuing training of existing Division staff.
Represent the Company on various internal and external training workgroups.
Ensure employees receive company orientation training.
Prepare tour packages, schedule and provide tours as required. Maintain material current for use in public communications and media relations as required.
Assist in other duties of the SO T&D department as workload and priorities dictate.
Selection Criteria:
Essential Competencies:
Requires knowledge of electricity, mechanics, physics and power systems related to the activities of transmission and distribution system operations. A postsecondary credential in adult education or distance education is an asset.
A valid NERC RC certificate is an asset.
Requires advanced knowledge and experience in the appropriate technical areas (i.e. power systems related to the transmission and distribution system operations) to develop expertise in the practical aspects of the various client operations, related equipment and software (i.e. NMS, DMS), materials, methods, procedures, safety, and other practices.
Advanced knowledge of training design methodologies and content design tools is required.
Demonstrable experience developing and delivering training via multiple modalities is required (I.e. classroom, remote, blended delivery, and asynchronous).
Demonstrable experience of assessing staff is an asset.
Requires experience to be familiar with the various duties and responsibilities of the job, such as, liaising effectively with clients and determining training needs, designing ,delivering, implementing, and evaluating training to staff.
Must have demonstrated abilities to efficiently plan, organize work, and prioritize multiple activities.
Requires excellent communications skills in order to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Clear and concise English communication skills both verbal and written.
Requires advanced knowledge of technical writing for the preparation and checking of operating procedures, practices, standards, presentations, technical reports, contract documents, Scopes of Work, and specifications.
Requires extensive experience/knowledge in the application of information technology to manage control systems.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Comprehensive appreciation and commitment to customer needs.

Working knowledge and ability to acquire computer skill needed in using Microsoft applications, Hydro One computer applications, and other vendor provided programs and applications.
Note:
This position will require travel between the Barrie Corporate Office, the Ontario Grid Control Center (Barrie), the Integrated System Operation Center (Orillia) and other corporate locations. A valid Class G license and personal transportation is required. More than 1 may be required.
