Founded in 1994, the International Bureau for Children’s Rights – “the Bureau” or “IBCR” is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose mission is to contribute to the respect and promotion of children’s right around the world.

Through a participatory and sustainable approach, we work with our partners on the ground to promote and protect the rights of children, whether they are in contact with the justice system or facing a humanitarian crisis situation, caused by armed conflict or natural disaster. We also work to prevent all forms of exploitation, violence, abuse and neglect of children, including for sexual purposes.

SUMMARY OF THE OFFER

Under the responsibility of the Volunteer Cooperation Programme (PCV) Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Project Manager and the Regional Manager, the volunteer cooperant will carry out his/her mandate with the partner organisation – the Institut Supérieur de Travail Social (ISTS) – in order to strengthen its capacities in the field of adult education. In particular, the development worker will support training of trainers workshops and support the partner in developing a management tool to record good practice in the training of social workers. The post holder will actively participate in the PCV activities in order to achieve the planned results. The incumbent will also contribute to the development of reports and communication articles related to the activities developed and implemented.

ABOUT THE PARTNER

ISTS trains professionals in Social Work. It works with experienced teachers in Social Work. ISTS is a private denominational institute of higher education affiliated to the Catholic University of Madagascar (U.C.M). The training provided is sanctioned by a professional diploma in social work according to the chosen speciality. The social workers who graduate from ISTS are directly operational. Since its creation at the same time as Madagascar’s independence, ISTS has set itself a double objective. Firstly, to be an actor in development in its own right and to contribute to the building of a state governed by the rule of law and the advent of a democratic society where inequalities and injustices are combated and wealth is equitably shared. This commitment to the development of Madagascar is reflected in the second objective of ISTS. It is to train competent and committed professionals in all areas of social work to make them available to public and private structures that work for justice, law, the reduction of inequalities and human promotion…

RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure that programme implementation activities are carried out and that a relationship of trust is established with the partner organisation
• Contribute to the delivery of training of trainers in adult education
• Support the partner in the development of a management tool to record good practice in the training of social workers
• Support ISTS in the development of training tools on children’s rights for social workers
• Contribute to the capacity building of ISTS trainers to ensure the respect of children’s rights
• Support the partner to contribute to the capacity building of trainings to ensure gender equality
• Write progress reports on the activities implemented in collaboration with the partner organisation
• Write articles/blogs about the work done and the experience of the volunteer cooperation
• Support the strengthening of the partner organisation in terms of work organisation, information management, communications and any other activity related to his/her expertise
• At the request of his/her line manager, carry out any other task related to his/her skills and the smooth running of the programme

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements

• University degree in education, social work, human sciences, international relations, management or related field
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of significant work experience in functions related to the implementation of project management, training of trainers or relevant experience related to the mandate
• Knowledge of gender equality
• Mastery of new information technologies and interest in communication
• Strong analytical and writing skills
• Perfect command of written and spoken French. The person must be able to write, revise, comment and correct texts in French
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Ability to work independently, and to multi-task
• Knowledge of security measures in international cooperation
• Sensitivity to cultural differences
• Willingness to travel to Madagascar
