The Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for a team of approximately 15-20 software developers and QA engineers that are primarily tasked with the implementation of core components and services for our US based software development teams. Based in Oakville, ON this person will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the components & services in conjunction with other teams in the US developing related services.
This is a technical transformational role. The Director will be responsible for successfully building, managing, motivating and empowering a high caliber, team-oriented development organization that promotes excellence and rewards results. A strong background in software architecture and currently technologies will be necessary to guide the teams to advance our technology offerings for current and future services.

Qualifications:
Industry Experience. The successful Software Development leader should have at least 10 years of experience delivering complex software applications and services. Experience delivering into State and local governments is highly desirable, but not required.
Functional Experience. The ideal candidate is an accomplished technical leader who has built and managed concurrent teams delivering complex products and services. He or she will have taken products through a series of releases and platform migrations using ‘best in class’ processes and will have been in a position which necessitated communication with customers and/or strategic partners. Proven experience with Software Architecture for Cloud Native Services and supporting applications is a must have for success in this role.
Horizontal Leadership Skills. Must be able to establish rapport, value and respect within a complex and sophisticated environment. He or she must sell ideas and influence directly and indirectly. Ideal personal characteristics include: challenging colleagues constructively; stimulating the thinking of others; being team oriented and a decision-maker; initiating and leading change; and knowing how and when to teach.
Communication Style. The successful candidate’s communication style should be collaborative yet direct and non-confrontational. He or she must be able to articulate clear, strategic, tangible goals for the organization, negotiate agreements where each party benefits, and deliver an honest assessment of the level of achievement of those goals. The candidate must have the ability to facilitate presentations to large internal and external audiences.

Must be a self motivated, results-oriented, team player who leads by example, holds him or herself accountable for performance, takes absolute ownership, and champions all aspects of the program. The successful candidate will reject setbacks and will enthusiastically persist until ambitious goals are achieved, both personally and from a team perspective. The successful candidates will possess a high energy level that allows them to react to situations quickly and decisively, possessing self-confidence to be assertive when taking a position, not being afraid to make decisions.
Management Style. The style of management is deeply rooted in the team approach. To complement the management team, an individual must be able to blend their individual successes into that of the entire team. Other Qualifications
Track record of providing direction and leadership to product development teams in a cross-functional, global environment.
Must have experience building and leading teams using Lean/Agile methodologies. Must be able to act as an agile evangelist.
Proficiency in defining and executing delivery strategies/plans, creating KPI’s to measure progress, and working with partner organizations.
Experience and understanding of Earned Value Management.
Demonstrated record of delivering programs in a timely manner; Meeting budgetary and schedule-based measures.
Ability to ensure competitiveness and breakthrough strategies for new products and solutions with demonstrated success in a highly collaborative, results-oriented environment.
Partner with Program Management Office and executive leadership.
Define and evangelize methodologies to assure high quality releases.
