THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Bilingual HR Generalist is responsible for performing a range of HR cross-functional duties supporting IHML and Managed properties, and its employees, in the Quebec Region. The duties and competencies consist of employee & labour relations, policy interpretation, compensation & benefits administration, health & safety, training & professional development, recruitment & selection, performance management, and other HR projects as assigned. Provide resolutions and consultative advice in the aforementioned areas to ensure profitable business operations and cultural alignment to Corporate Values. The successful candidate will be joining our Corporate Hotel HR team supporting our 2,000+ hotel colleagues, whilst providing additional daily support to the Corporate Hotel HR team.
ACTIVITIES:
· Ensures effective employee communications and employee relations are maintained; nurtures a positive workplace environment.
· Supports new employee orientation to familiarize employees with legal, Company, hotel, and brand requirements. Ensures accurate completion of new hire paperwork.
· Coordinates the administration of compensation and benefit programs to include wage and benefit surveys, benefits enrollment and communication, personnel action forms, and payroll changes.
· Supports the collective bargaining process and support in managing unionized environments for the assigned region.
· Assists in maintaining the data integrity of the HCM and group health benefits portals for the assigned region.
· Provides direction, coaching and counseling on Human Resources issues such as performance management and employee relations.
· Communicates, interprets, and implements company policies and procedures, ensures consistency in application and compliance with company policies, government laws and regulations (i.e., Health and Safety).
· Leads the processing of appropriate worker’s compensation, work related injury and disability management to ensure proper completion of required paperwork for the Quebec Region.
· Assess training needs and applies/delivers and monitors training programs and ensures that all training requirement of the Hotel are current (Health & Safety, Venza Training, brand training etc.).
· Completes other duties and projects, as assigned.
COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING:
· Academic/Education Requirements:
o Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent combination of education and work experience is preferred.
· Knowledge, Experience and Skills Requirements:
o Minimum four (4) years’ experience in HR environment. HR work experience in the hospitality industry / real estate market would be a definite asset.
o Prior HR work experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
o CHRP designation is highly desired.
o As this role is primarily supporting the Quebec Region, must be fluently bilingual (French & English) both written and spoken.
o Intermediate to advanced proficiency in HCM/HRMS software programs; prior solution experience with Ultimate/Kronos/UKG is a definite asset.
o Strong working knowledge of Human Resources Generalist areas required.
o In-depth understanding of relevant Canadian and Quebec employment and labour law.
o Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point) and Microsoft Outlook.
o Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws, and policies.
o Demonstrated knowledge and capacity for change management.
o Ability to develop and implement strategies.
o Superior interpersonal communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
o Effective ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
o Strong written and oral communication skills; highly developed administrative and time-management skills.
o Highly self-motivated and directed work ethic; keen attention to detail, proven problem-solving & analytical abilities.
o Strong multi-tasking skill set; ability to effectively prioritize and execute sequential tasks in a highly pressurized work environment.
o Highly adept internal customer service orientation.
o Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Mental Effort required to perform the job:
· Frequent mental attentiveness and listening is required when dealing with Human Resources tasks.
· Frequent mental effort is required in multi-tasking, handling interruptions, and/or Employee/Manager queries, that require constant refocusing.
· Frequent mental effort is required in meeting stringent deadlines.
· Frequent levels of concentration required for accuracy when dealing with Human Resources tasks and initiatives.
Physical Effort required to perform the job:
· Continuously requires manual dexterity speed and hand/eye coordination for work at a computer.
· Periodic lifting of computer hardware and administrative materials such as laptop, physical files, binders, etc.
Responsibility for Resources:
· Responsible for work area.
· Responsible for confidential Human Resources and sensitive employee documents, equipment, and protocols related to the company.
Working Conditions
· Continuously working at a workstation, assigned by the Manager.
· Continuously working in a climate-controlled office.
· Frequently travels to properties in the assigned region, as required.
· Frequent meetings (in-person, virtual) to discuss various Human Resources subject matter.
· Temporary hybrid working arrangement, subject to change.
