The Insurance Council of British Columbia is the regulatory organization that licenses and regulates the activities of over 45,000 life and general insurance agents, general insurance salespersons, insurance adjusters, and restricted travel insurance agents in British Columbia.
The Opportunity
The Licensing Officer is responsible for reviewing and approving applications for existing and potential licensees under the Financial Institutions Act and handling related inquiries. This position permits a balanced hybrid model of work-from-home and in-office.

Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have a background in a regulatory setting or in the financial services or insurance industry. The incumbent must have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Good oral and written communication skills are important, along with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review licensing applications for first, reapplications, and amendments; requests for termination of licences; and changes in authorizations to represent, in accordance with governing legislation, Council Rules, policies and department procedures.
Input all relevant data to the licensing system.
Approve applications that meet standards under Council Rules or refer with recommendations, where possible, cases that do not meet standards or indicate suitability or other issues to the Licensing Analyst or Manager, Licensing for consideration.
Prepare and issue correspondence to applicants and licensees regarding outstanding requirements, and clarification of licensing requirements.
Respond to written and oral licensing inquiries within 1-2 business days.
Document all pertinent telephone calls and meetings in licensee/applicant’s file on the licensing system.
Follow up on open and pending cases.
Remain current on Council legislation and procedures.
Liaise with other regulatory bodies regarding applicants and licensees.
Handle other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in a related field such as business administration or equivalent experience.
Minimum two years of experience in a similar capacity.
Excellent word processing skills with a minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.
Good time-management skills with an ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities.
