We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Technical Manager.

This role is based in our Manufacturing Plant in Edmonton Alberta and reports to the Plant Manager.

Job Summary

The Technical Support Manager is responsible for leading the plant Quality Control/Assurance, Maintenance, Plant Engineering and Project Estimating. They will also collaborate with Corporate Project Engineering to ensure alignment between groups and with Corporate Quality to ensure alignment between groups. They are responsible for drawing maintenance and specification accuracy as well as quoting, routing and other related activities.

Principal Responsibilities

• Ensures a safe working environment for all employees.
• Responsible for leading the daily tasks of the Production, Estimating and Quality Control department employees.
• Participate in continuous improvement
• Assists with process improvement initiatives
• Plans, coordinates, and directs quality control/assurance program in the areas of workplace and product quality designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established company standards. This includes implementation of quality testing, documentation of operational procedures and training. Implements and adheres to all elements and Continuous Improvement ensuring perpetuation of the system.
• Conduct product conformance tests and maintain records.
• Conduct tests on new products, analyze the results and document in the same manner as spot inspections.
• Develop and update product specification / packaging manual to support production and develop standards and specifications for new products.
• Investigates and adjusts customer feedback regarding quality, responding to the source and relaying information back to management.
• Train & teach Quality Control (QC) personnel on accurate QC assurance procedures and review quality assurance instructions and work methods to ensure the work is done in a safe and efficient manner.
• Train Department Supervisor, Production Supervisor and Lead hands to ensure they are knowledgeable with current manufacturing techniques as resolved through product development and testing.
• Is responsible for the functions related to maintenance, engineering, and plant projects.
• Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program that will improve the productivity of the equipment/tooling, including the safety & environmental components of the equipment/tooling.
• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Completion of an engineering program at the college level.
• Formal training in the area of quality control.
• 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• 5 years applicable experience in a plastics manufacturing environment
• 3 –5 years’ experience in a leadership position
• Excellent communication, management, and leadership skills.
