We are looking for an ambitious Accountant to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. You will be part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for Islamic Relief Canada’s finances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare transactions to be posted to general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, accounts payable and general ledger adjustments
Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements and budget performance
Ensure compliance with non-profit standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control
Aid in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines
Provide accurate, timely, and relevant recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information
Identify areas for improvement and implement improvements to processes within Accounting function
Assist with auditor requests for relevant areas of responsibility
Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
Qualifications/Competencies:
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
1-2 years of relevant accounting/finance experience
Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
Experience in preparing detailed financial documents and complex reports
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Highly detail-oriented
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
Strong problem solving skills
Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
Well-organized, and able to work well in a team environment
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Must be eligible to work in Canada
