The Rail and Transit Team in Ontario / Quebec is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Junior Transit Vehicle Engineer to join our cohesive and supportive team. In this role, you will have the opportunity expand your knowledge and understanding of all that goes into a transit system, developing your expertise on a myriad of interdisciplinary projects, such as new vehicle procurements, vehicle overhauls, condition assessments, technical issue resolution, component/system integration, and design review. You will work support on projects that will include the procurement of new or overhauled transit vehicles and related projects involving Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Subway, Commuter, and Intercity Rail Vehicles.

In this position you will be working both independently and collaboratively with our team of established experts aligned to our various Jacobs offices and field locations. Some remote work is probable with some travel anticipated to Ontario and/or Quebec locations as part of this role.

Your Responsibilities Include

• Provide project management and technical support to a variety of rail and transit vehicle assignments.
• Preparation of technical specifications and documentation related to procurement of vehicles, their subsystems, maintenance and training requirements etc.
• Support the assessment of performance and specification compliance for vehicles and sub-systems
• Assist with technical reviews of vehicle and subsystem design for transit vehicles, coordinating reviews and comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables.
• Assist with oversight and witnessing of factory testing of vehicles and subsystems prior to approval for shipment; log discrepancies and prepare reports for status of system testing.
• Monitor field implementation and testing activities for a range of vehicles.

You’ll be working mainly from home (unless you prefer coming into the office), with the expectation to travel for client /site meetings and occasional team meetings.

• BS in an Electrical or Mechanical or Structural Engineering discipline
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences are critical.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a rail and transit vehicle engineering, fleet operations and maintenance, or manufacturing role is desirable.
• Experience with rail and transit vehicle fleet procurement and/or overhaul programs is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of rail and transit vehicle industry standards, systems, and practices is preferred.
• EIT or a demonstrated desire to pursue P.Eng. is a strong plus.
