Purpose of Position:
The Labour Relations Manager provides day to day collective agreement administration, application, and oversight. The role conducts research, provides organizational and investigative support to the Labour Relations Department with direct oversight for smaller labour group(s). This position acts as a departmental liaison on Employee Relations and Labour Relations issues for all Divisions. The nature of this position requires strict confidentiality, excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. Travel is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day to day labour relations guidance and oversight for designated collective agreement as assigned ensuring compliance and familiarity with all statutory laws and regulations as applicable in the federal sector.
Assist with administration, application and interpretation, negotiation of LOU’s and settlements under appropriate collective agreement(s).
Participate and provide guidance and support on grievance handling, performance management of unionized employees, corporate policies, accommodation, culpable absenteeism, filling of vacancy processes.
Lead and/or assist with investigations as required/appropriate, along with issuance of discipline up to and including termination of employment.
Develop and promote a cooperative and effective labour relations environment through liaising with applicable Union representatives, while assisting with any and all dispute/conflict resolution.
Attend and document UMHQ, collective bargaining, grievance review, ADR process, mediation and arbitration as required.
Oversee the Jazz Uniform Program, including liaison with Air Canada and departments on items relating to brand management, uniform imaging, processes, stock levels, policy and collective agreement compliance.
Oversee seniority list retention and posting requirements in accordance with collective agreement(s) as required.
Assist with responses to complaints relating to alleged violations of the Canada Labour Code, Labour Standards Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, CIRB and any other appropriate authority.
Assist in preparing material and briefs for and attend arbitration, mediation, conciliation, ADR including, collect and organizing data/information, testifying, communication and implementation of any awards as necessary.
Complete analysis and stay informed on latest trends in Canadian and airline industry labour relations as they pertain to Jazz.
Project and administrative work as required to support departmental goals.
Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be fully vaccinated with a Canadian government approved vaccine against COVID-19 prior to start date.
Degree or Diploma in a related field of Human Resource/ Labour Relations, Management or Business.
3-5 years’ experience, understanding of labour legislation, collective agreement interpretation.
Highly developed analytical and disputes resolution skills.
Self-motivated, detail orientated, enthusiastic, confident individual with excellent organization, problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
