Summer Student, IT/Computer Support

Work Status: Full-Time/Contract (June to August, 10 weeks)
Location: Durham Region
About the Role:
The individual will work closely with staff from multiple programs to provide training and technical support for in a multi-site, Windows domain-based environment. Day to day technical duties will range from server and desktop admin to troubleshooting and developing improved automation tools for system admin. Having a strong skill set in use of Office 365 will play a vital part in a key priority of this role, which is to develop and deliver training to agency staff in use of Office 365.
You’ll be working on things like:
Support
Provide basic technical support for end users (file, print, e-mail access, responding to questions, other)
Assists with user desktop/laptop and server system updates and upgrades
Assists with some server administration functions (new user account creation, user password resets, account access changes)
Review, recommend, and modify Group Policy Objects on the network to improve core systems functions and flow
Check and resolve errors that arise from nightly backup reports
Monitor and respond to error conditions reported in network monitoring software (PRTG)
Monitor, review and recommend adjustments for agency public WAPs
Create, modify, test, deploy network scripts (batch files, powershell)
Training
Surveys and discusses with Managers and staff, overall areas of need and interest for technology training
Develops learning plans to improve staff application of core technology tools:
Office 365 (priority item – training basic to intermediate skills)
Ring Central (intermediate skills features)
E-mail for educating staff on latest scams/phishing techniques
Develops technology quizzes in the above areas
Create/assess pre-training knowledge
Create in-training tests to help solidify the learning experience
Deliver post-training tests to measure change in knowledge and knowledge retention
Adjust and modify training methods based upon the above results

Related Community College program of study
Experience using Office 365 (particularly Admin experience)
Azure AD experience an asset
Some prior experience creating/editing Powershell scripts
Experienced in using Zoom to host/co-host meetings, including using polls, breakout rooms, annotation mode
Strong knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite
Experience with Windows Server 2019
Experience with performing in-place and from-scratch Windows upgrades/installations
Solid knowledge of domain-based networks, IPv4 addressing, DHCP
Strong self-management skills to achieve project goals within short timelines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to take initiative and work as part of a team
Between the ages of 15-30 years; able to work in Canada
