The Director, Procurement Digitization & Strategy will be responsible for shaping and driving the overall Procurement Digital Strategy, roadmap, and capability framework. This role will oversee the governance and ensure proper linkages to the digital strategies of partner functions (e.g., Sector strategies, Global Services (GS), J&J Technology (JJT)). This leader will drive innovation through the Procurement Garage and in partnership with GS and JJT – establish and foster strong external connections with digital thought leaders, startups, and academia to accelerate our digital journey. Additionally, this role will lead a team responsible for managing our digital technology investments and governance and will drive value realization of an ambitious portfolio to deliver against our Digital Strategy. The Director, Procurement Digitization & Strategy will also shape our Design Thinking and User Experience strategy that will amplify our 3 E’s (Efficiency, Experience, Excellence) as we deliver end-to-end delightful, ‘consumer-like’ frictionless digital experiences with our stakeholders (e.g., Supplier, Business Partners, and Employees) – enabling our promise of shaping solutions that transform the trajectory of health for humanity.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital Strategy
Shape and drive overall Procurement digital strategy that will accelerate business outcomes and propel growth – in partnership with the Procurement Leadership Team (PLT), Extended Procurement Leadership Team (EPLT), Procurement Process & Capabilities Leadership Team (PP&C LT), Sector stakeholders, GS and JJT
Ensure the digital strategy is understood, accepted, adopted and activated globally
Define and manage a multi-year digital roadmap which includes sector-centric and prioritized function initiatives that will enable delivery of business objectives and create value for the enterprise
Establish strong alignment and linkages to digital strategies of Janssen and MedTech and our partner functions such as J&J Technology, Supply Chain, Global Services, Finance, HR
Partner with GS to shape and drive Intelligence Automation strategy and portfolio to meet functional value commitments and accelerate the roadmap of enabling capabilities
Set and drive the Digital Procurement Steering Council agenda in collaboration with senior Procurement business leaders and cross functional partners
Portfolio & Governance
Oversee a $30MM annual portfolio of Procurement digital investments
Lead business case definition & value realization for all key digital products/programs in partnership with Finance, GS & JJT – establishing direct connection to, and impact on, our functional balance scorecard
Drive portfolio prioritization and ensure all aligned road-map initiatives have defined milestones, critical interdependencies and risks identified as well as KPIs
Design, track, and assess program delivery against long and short-range goals and carry out regular reviews of the progress with Procurement business architects, GS as well as key cross functional partners and leadership
Utilize agile portfolio management principles and rapid value realization techniques to govern investment allocations throughout product/program life cycles
Procurement Garage
Establish and foster strong connections with digital thought leaders, startups, diverse technology providers and academia. Incubate and mature new and emerging ideas/solutions and infuse external insights, innovation and agility that will accelerate our bold digital aspiration.
Oversee the Procurement Garage and facilitate opportunities to scale solutions that prove value to mature our digital capabilities and continue to stay ahead of current times – creating and unlocking future sources of value for the function and the enterprise
Identify key emerging digital technologies & innovations and determine their implications on the Procurement Digital Strategy, taxonomy and citizenship aspirations
Prioritize digital innovation pipeline of opportunities based on business needs, viability as well as business and societal impact
User Experience
Shape overall design and user experience strategy for the key personas that interact with Procurement solutions and services in partnership with GS and JJT
Utilize extensive knowledge of, and experience in design thinking to relentlessly pursue a customer centric approach to procurement digital solutions
Advocate for and elevate design thinking competency within the function and ensure design is embedded throughout procurement products and solutions
Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s or equivalent University degree is required with a focused discipline in Computer Science, Engineering or related field preferred. Masters or Advanced degree preferred.
Required:
A minimum of 12 years relevant work experience
Proven track record of success in creating, driving, and delivering transformative digital strategies at the functional or enterprise level.
Demonstrated experience and finance acumen in managing large digital portfolios and driving value realization.
Experience of applying advanced digital capabilities such as Data Sciences, Intelligent Automation, Multi-platform UX Design & Visualization to business challenges
Strategic thinker with excellent business acumen and the ability to translate and synthesize complex information into clear insights and recommendations for senior executives.
High level of proficiency in partnering with external digital solution providers across various stages of maturity (start-ups, emerging & established) to co-create disruptive and innovative digital solutions and business models.
Outstanding stakeholder management experience at the most senior levels, superior influencing, and collaboration skills
Thought leader with an agile mindset experienced in shaping solutions, with strong communication, collaboration, and partnership skills.
Excellent presentation skills: can speak confidently across various forums and communicate to broad, diverse audience.
Strong leader that is driven to create a positive, diverse, and inspiring work environment, especially during times of change.
Proven track record in attracting, developing talent, and demonstrated team building skills.
Embodies strong interpersonal, consultative and facilitation skills.
Preferred:
Previous Strategy Consulting experience with a top-tier management consulting organization
Experience working in or supporting a Procurement function with an understanding of the Procurement taxonomy (Spend Management Strategy/Source to Settle)
Experience supporting a global and highly matrix organization
Digital Product Management experience
