The Manager works as part of a team on engagements to ensure the Firm exceeds client expectations, with focus on accuracy, completeness and process-efficiency. The Manager is responsible for demonstrating leadership and management skills in their oversight of junior counterparts on the team and consistently strives to manage, build and nurture strong client relationships. Managers will be exposed to a greater depth of working experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Gain an overall understanding of the client’s business and its systems through a review of prior year’s files, conduct relevant research online, work with the Partner or Director who is familiar with the client
Communicate/meet with client prior to the engagement to determine expectations for the year-end
Develop a game-plan prior to the engagement to determine the most time and cost-efficient process for conducting the engagement, seeking efficiencies where possible
Prior to an engagement, the Manager will meet with the applicable staff to plan the engagement activities
Be thoroughly familiar with audit and/or review requirements (CPA Handbook) to ensure all activities required for engagement compliance have been conducted
As part of the engagement planning, review actual to budget hours of the prior year to find areas for improvement and determine appropriate budget for current year
Communicate/meet with client prior to an audit or review to determine expectations for the year- end and applicable time frame to complete the engagement
Review tax returns prepared by staff and provide feedback where applicable
Supervise Staff throughout the preparation of returns and review their work for accuracy and quality and ensure required corrections are made
Work with both the applicable partner and client to develop an understanding of their existing tax structure and provide recommendations based on the clients unique situation and objectives including estate planning
Develop strong relationships with existing clients and seek out new business opportunities
Ensure minimum Professional Development hour requirement as per the Firm Quality Control Manual is attained on an annual basis
Keep up to date on current GAAP and CAS knowledge (Assurance staff only) and tax knowledge
Be a role model and lead the office by example by demonstrating in depth accounting and tax knowledge and professionalism
Requirements:
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience
CPA designation is a must
Strong tax, audit and accounting knowledge
Ability to carry out an audit or review engagement from beginning to end
Experience working with corporate groups as opposed to focusing on one client
Strong attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Superior communication skills, both verbal and in writing
Ability to develop strong working relationships with key contacts at different levels of an organization and understand their needs
Superior management and leadership skills
Excellent networking skills
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite, Caseware, Caseview, Taxprep, Research Software
Working knowledge of QuickBooks and Simply Accounting is and asset
