Krahn Engineering is currently seeking a Controller with strong leadership qualities to join our Accounting team, located at our Vancouver office. Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Controller will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial statements, annual review, budgeting, cost analyses, cash management, capital management, and tax filings. The position will also be responsible for internal controls, process/systems improvement and policy/procedure development.
Responsibilities
Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
Ensure internal and external financial statement deadlines are met.
Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each department.
Provide advice, guidance and recommendations on all accounting matters.
Coordinate the year-end review and preparation of Review and/or NTR financial statements for all companies within Krahn Group of Companies (KGC) and related companies as assigned.
Responsible to recruit, manage, train, direct and complete staff development for all members of the accounting department.
Assist the VP Finance with implementing and maintaining budgeting and forecasting processes as required (month to yearly).
Responsible to generate reports of performance against budgets.
Work with Operations to define, analyze and measure current processes to improve financial performance. Manage the preparations of KPI reporting.
Ensure timely collection of receivables by refining and implementing the A/R manual as required.
Assist VP of Finance with tax matters for the KGC and related companies as assigned while using internal and external stakeholders as required to minimize overall taxes and future tax exposures.
Responsible to assign and authorize cheques, purchase orders and invoices to manage cash flow.
Professionally manage external stakeholders such as bankers, accountant, lawyers, CRA and clients.
Maintain professional relationships with internal stakeholders by answering emails and phone calls within agreed timeframes considering priorities and ensuring stakeholders know the status of outstanding requests.
Promote and maintain positive corporate relations with local financial communities.
Responsible for the formulation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls with input from the VP of Finance.
Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as required.
Qualifications:
CPA designation with a minimum of 10+ years of management/controllership experience.
Strong business acumen with an understanding of financial planning and control, risk management and cash management.
Previous management and job costing experience are considered assets.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; strong analytical problem solving, planning, and project management skills; and ability to proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Provision of accurate and timely processing of monthly financial data and preparation of monthly financial statements, cash control and payroll processing.
Involved with the activities of billings, collections, accounts payable and accounts receivable, including accounts receivable ageing, billings, and weekly reports.
Demonstrated leadership background with the ability to communicate financial information and influence positive change.
Initiative to use and improvise on appropriate software.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft products.
Experience with SQL databases, PowerQuery or PowerBI and Deltek Ajera is preferred.
