Overview:
To supervise the operation of a concrete plant including concrete mixer drivers and plant maintenance to ensure delivery of quality product, timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Health and Safety:
Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
Responsible for ensuring safety guideline are followed by employees on a daily basis.
Correct safety issues immediately when possible, and offer employees coaching on safe work practices.
Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.
HR/Coaching & Mentoring:
Report to the Area Manager regarding situations that require disciplinary actions.
Foster an effective environment for employee relations.
Ensure employees have a daily job list and inform them ASAP of any irregular work hours.
Environment:
Demonstrate a commitment to meet/exceed environmental compliance.
Have an understanding of the procedures for environmental issues such as spills, dust control, truck idling, etc. are outlined in the EMS manual.
Ensure spill containment is on hand at all times.
Reporting:
Responsible for keeping accurate and organized daily safety talks binder.
Document near misses to plant manager along with plant safety issues.
Ensure safety wall is up to date with Safety minutes and tool box talk sheets.
Maintain an accurate account of the volume sold, rejected and resold on a daily basis.
Submit reports on time to area administer.
Submit Quality Control report on a monthly basis to Quality Control Manager.
Ensure all COD money is collected BEFORE concrete is sold, unless otherwise directed from manager.
Keep an accurate account of COD sales.
Ensure that all opportunities to sell VAP products are exhausted and track VAP successes.
Ensure all month end tracking is submitted to Area Administer on time and is accurate.
Maintain a COD log of quotes supplied with contact numbers.
Keep an accurate account of fuel usage. Ensure all employees are reporting fuel used and are fueling trucks at night.
Ensure all invoices are approved by the PM and faxed or mailed to head office in a timely manner.
File and Organize all concrete delivery tickets and ensure drivers are submitting signed copies
All received faxes are accounted for and delivered to the correct person
Ensure mechanic is receiving all inspection reports from drivers.
Ensure all drivers are completing the proper paperwork, correct drivers if work is not completed to acceptable levels.
Document issues with drivers.
Sales:
Communicate opportunities and threats to Area Manager.
Communicate customer issues with plant manager and/or appropriate Lafarge employee.
Ensure all COD calls are followed up on and strive to up sell all COD’s towards a VAP product.
Transportation & Logistics:
Responsible for supervision of Ready Mix drivers on a daily basis.
Responsible for concrete batch operations.
Directs the activities of drivers while in the plant yard and through radio communications while on the job sites.
This position requires a thorough understanding of the concrete manufacturing process.
Work with mechanic to ensure efficient scheduling for routine maintenance on the plant and loader.
Ensure that mobile equipment is respected and maintained and document any driver abuse.
Limit idle time of trucks in the yard.
Ensure that drivers are only “called in” when required and make effort to limit ideal time of drivers and trucks.
Schedule jobs to ensure best use of fleet. Schedule deliveries throughout the day to maximize truck turns per day when possible.
Preplan in advance for all material required to complete upcoming jobs (Aggregate, Cement, Ice, Admixture, etc.)
Preplan and communicate to drivers expected call in times and provide rough schedule of day’s events.
Ensure all aspects of scheduled pours are covered in terms of understanding customer requirements. May require calls to customers.
Ensure all paper work associated with pumping / extras is collected and accurately processed through the billing process.
Effectively utilizes Lafarge’s maintenance programs to maximize plant up-time and manage costs.
Administration:
Manage inventory of materials and products through interface with Command and SAP, as well as coordination of daily activities.
“Zero” inventory every 6 months to ensure accuracy.
Performs, at minimum, one physical inventory count each month.
Orders materials for concrete components and supplies for resale.
Assist manager with various administrative works in the office.
When plant manager is absent from the office inform he/she of any important information that arrived during their absence.
Ensure plant manager is made aware of all relevant situations that arise at the plant in a timely manner (IE customer’s issues, driver’s issues, environmental, safety, etc.)
Ensure all payrolls are accurate and prepared for the manager’s sign off in a timely manner.
Operations Analysis and Action Tracking:
Effectively utilizes KPIs, Performance Efficiency Reviews, financial statements and operational reports to track performance, establish effective action plans and continuously improve the operations.
Track and make adjustments to limit voided concrete.
Seek help when necessary.
Goal is less than 1% voided meters.
Limit call in no loads, top ups, and deadheads.
Maximize turns per day / per truck.
Ensure a full understanding of the batch computer and regularly verify batching tolerances.
Plant Image:
Maintains the plant in accordance with standard guidelines for plant image. Plant image includes housekeeping, parts storage, vehicles and equipment condition (cleanliness and appearance), entrance & property, and buildings.
Ensure all policies regarding day to day operations are followed.
Monitor concrete wash out is clean and drivers are held accountable for following set procedure.
Ensure that returned concrete is poured into block moulds and that block making area is keep clean.
Ensure block moulds are stripped and reset each morning.
Maintain a clean and organised work space. Areas that customers/employees have accesses to must not contain any sensitive information.
Ensure general cleanliness of plant is upheld
PPE for employees/guests should be on hand and in good order at all times.
Safety equipment must remain accessible and in good order at all times

Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 year’s supervisory experience
Experience in the ready mix business preferred
Excellent Communication skills – verbal and written
Good organization and planning skills
Able to multi-task, prioritize and maintain composure in a busy environment
Good computer skills (Word, Excel, SAP, Command-Alkon)
Self-Motivated
Available to work overtime as needed
Customer Service oriented
