Overview:
The Grinding & Terminal Manager’s primary objective is to manage the grinding of cementitious and non-cementitious products through the finish mill(s) at Woodstock as well as manage and coordinate truck and rail unloading, distribution, storage and blending activities of the terminal facilities. The incumbent will oversee facility optimization while maintaining the high level of performance standards in safety, production, quality and customer service at Woodstock and operating within environmental regulations consistent with the business strategy and objectives of ECAN and the existing certificates of the Woodstock facility. In addition, this role will act as a liaison between the manufacturing, sales and logistics functions to analyze infrastructure requirements and make recommendations to the required parties. Lastly, the incumbent is responsible for the purchasing of supplies, equipment and managing of capital projects.
Responsibilities:
Safety:
The primary focus of the Grinding & Terminal Manager is to safely and efficiently manage the assets of the plant to drive for performance through its grinding operations and distribution terminal.
Development and implementation of activities related to functional and safety training throughout the facility, as well as training related to manufacturing & terminal specific operations, policies and procedures.
Compliance & Environment:
Ensure that facility is compliant with all environmental and safety requirements through on-site leadership related to conducting training and completing all required documentation of training events.
The incumbent must co-ordinate the incoming rail car and truck shipments to assure quick, efficient and environmentally clean unloading at the terminals.
The incumbent must ensure all activities related to environmental requirements on the grinding side is maintained to meet certificate and regulatory requirements.
Human Resources:
Responsible for managing workforce from recruitment, training, disciplinary actions and terminations.
The incumbent will foster effective employee relations with the union and ensure employees have a daily job list and inform them as soon as possible of any irregular work hours.
Coaching and development of the workforce including the preparation and management of individual development plans.
Operational Performance:
Responsible for effective and efficient utilization of mill(s) to grind materials to support the needs of the customers and as per the countries directive.
Responsible for planning production schedules, optimizing equipment and maximizing quality cement production safely, within budgeted costs.
Coordinate the ordering and purchasing of raw materials, grinding media, fuels, etc to meet budgeted production while maintaining adequate inventories.
Ensure effective troubleshooting of any problems in the department using direct reports and other departments as required. Coordinate with the proper department to have these problems repaired as quickly as possible to minimize downtime.
Effectively manage the operating budgets to ensure costs are controlled and objectives are met
An effective inventory management strategy utilizing communication of potential issues to manufacturing, sales and distribution to reduce the risk of customer service issues
Responsible for updating standard operating procedures for process modifications and/or equipment additions.
Implement and track maintenance, production processes and strategies to achieve targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
Employ daily communication process with management and Quality to drive group efficiencies, manage inventories and production performance.
Ensures systems are in place to effectively and accurately monitor key indicators (including monthly and annual adjustments) and consumption variables such as labour, subcontracting, energy, and fuel.
Maintenance:
Responsible for the annual maintenance budgets planning and monitoring process (i.e. plant and HME tires, wear parts, etc.) for all operations.
Report monthly on spend/variances, and ensure maintenance programs are implemented and budgets are met.
The incumbent is responsible housekeeping of the site, and updating the mechanical and electrical preventive maintenance programs.
The incumbent is responsible for the initiation of appropriation requests for improvements or modifications to the site that ensure economic viability for the operations and distribution of product.
Specific Accountabilities:
Co-ordinate with Area Manager, sales managers, logistics managers, shipping locations, and carriers to ensure adequate inventories.
To operate the site in a safe and efficient manner. Administer all Health and Safety programs and ensure that all Company safety standards are met.
To attain optimum quantity and quality of production by utilizing manpower and equipment efficiently and safely.
Maintain good employee relations and promote a harmonious working environment within the manufacturing, sales and logistics team as well as other Lafarge product lines.
To provide training and development of staff to ensure continuity for the site’s operations.
Provide long term vision to ensure the terminal is positioned to meet long-term market requirements.
Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and maintain a good corporate image in the community.
Prepare and submit capital and operating budgets to the Area Slag Grinding Plant Manager.
Management and implementation of a preventative maintenance program for the terminals.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Finance, Construction Management, Engineering or other related fields.
7-10 years of work experience in construction or manufacturing related fields.
Safety certifications a plus.
