Overview:
The Production operator works as part of an integral team responsible for the cement manufacturing process in an automated heavy duty industrial facility. The position must act as a key player within the Production Team. Ensure the equipment is functioning properly, operated safely and efficiently. Ensure that all the necessary raw materials and fuels are fed correctly. Ensure that the products produced meet the quality requirements defined in the applicable standards.
Responsibilities:
Ensure the raw materials, intermediate products and fuels are fed correctly through the right place at the right time
Inspect, troubleshoot and optimize the operation of the plant’s manufacturing equipment.
Perform quality control sampling, analysis and reporting for cement and intermediate products produced
Ensure the safety of our people and the safe operation of the plant’s equipment
Ensure production department operations comply with the applicable environmental requirements and regulations
Follow standard operating procedures to guarantee safe operations and meet product quality requirements
Perform safety field level risk assessments and pre-use inspections on different equipment
Report any safety incident, near miss, accident, unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors and take the proper immediate actions if required
Operate mobile equipment such as: skid steer, forklift, tele handler and articulated dump truck
Actively participate in the installation, replacement and/or repair of thermal insulating lining on different equipment when required
Relationship with Others
Control Room Operator – Coordinate and receive instructions. Report operation and equipment conditions, share quality analysis results, and report any safety incident or condition.
Maintenance Operators – Coordinate and help to accommodate the equipment under the necessary conditions when required
Labour Operators – Coordinate and help to accommodate the equipment under the necessary conditions when required
Production coordinator – Receive instructions, training, provide operation and safety reports, require equipment, materials and/or tools
Production Manager – Receive instructions, training, provide operation and safety reports, require equipment, materials and/or tools
Quality Supervisor – Receive instructions, training, provide quality and safety reports
Quality Manager – Receive instructions, training, provide quality and safety reports
Specific Accountabilities:
Field Operator:
Feed correctly the raw materials, intermediate products and fuels when they are needed.
Inspect equipment during operation to ensure is working properly
Troubleshoot equipment failures and work together with the control room operator to troubleshoot process issues.
Perform inspections in different points of the production line and provide feedback to control room operator
Move material rejects and/or spills when needed
Haul and dump Kiln dust to the dumpsite
Load kiln dust to trailers to send to customers
Report any safety incident, near miss, accident, unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors and take the proper immediate actions if required
Actively participate in the installation, replacement and/or repair of thermal insulating lining on different equipment when required
Report any relevant information or conditions regarding the plant operations to the production coordinator and/or manager
Lab Operator:
Collect samples from different parts of the process and prepare them to be analyzed
Run different lab equipment to perform tests to determine the product quality
Adjust certain process variables to meet the quality defined parameters provided by the quality department
Provide analysis results to the control room operator to adjust process conditions or take any actions if required
Fill up quality control and report files
Clean the lab equipment and tools used
Perform housekeeping in the lab working area
Help the field operator with certain tasks when required and/or possible
Report any safety incident, near miss, accident, unsafe conditions and/or unsafe behaviors and take the proper immediate actions if required
Actively participate in the installation, replacement and/or repair of thermal insulating lining on different equipment when required
Report any relevant information or conditions regarding the plant operations to the production coordinator and/or manager, quality supervisor and/or manager

Qualifications:
Technical diploma from a Post-Secondary program (Mechanical, Electrical or similar)
Thrive in a highly participative work environment with minimal supervision
Have a team player attitude and excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Have strong decision making skills and are able to prioritize and resolve issues in a timely manner
Ability to work independently and alongside a team in a fast-paced production environment
Proven work experience in an industrial facility
Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, including experience working with tools and/or equipment
Must be safety–oriented
Must be able to follow instructions, rules and regulations is essential
Must be able to work rotating shifts, and any mandatory weekday/weekend
Must be willing and able to perform work that includes manual lifting, carrying and moving tools and equipment; continuous walking and standing; regular bending
Must participate in all contractual, legislative or corporately mandated training
Must be able to use power/hand tools, hoists, and other equipment and machinery
Be able to work rotating shifts
Physical Demands:
Must be able to perform medium to heavy tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling on a frequent basis
Must be able to perform constant standing and walking
