Apprenticeship Mentor & Pathway Specialist (2 Positions)

The Program:

Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association (LO) is hiring a qualified Apprenticeship Mentor & Pathway Specialist to support the growth and continued success of the Horticulture Technician 441C Apprenticeship Program. This position will support the growing Group Sponsorship Program and objectives.

Since 2016, Landscape Ontario has been an MLTSD approved Group Sponsor for the Horticulture Technician 441C apprenticeship program. In this role Landscape Ontario is responsible for administration of:

• Awareness and promotion of the program;
• Employer and apprentice registration;
• Troubleshooting and customer service;
• Advocating on behalf of the industry;
• Maintaining up-to-date records and digital/print files;
• Working with the MLTSD and TDA’s throughout the process;
• Supporting apprentices through completion;
• Growing the number of Red Seal Landscape Horticulturists in the profession.

LO is hiring a high performing, qualified Apprenticeship Mentor & Pathway Specialist to provide case management support and mentorship services to apprentices candidates/applicants, apprentices and employers from registration through to successful completion. This work will be supported by the launch and implementation of new products and services that will be developed and that include a trade readiness program, apprentice success resources (study manual & completion toolkit), training standard orientations, a digital training tracker and coordinating of on-the-job skills rotation/matching services, etc. In addition, employers and trainers will receive train-the-trainer support to help employers create workplace cultures of training and advancement. From April 2021- March 2024, this project aims to recruit and register 675 new apprentices and 225 new employers and support the completion of all eligible apprentices currently in progress.

The Position:

The Apprenticeship Mentor & Pathway Specialist will take apprentice mentorship and case management support aimed at employers and apprentices to the next level. This position is pivotal to promoting the program to attract and recruit new entrant workers, incumbent workers and employers so that they can access the gift of the apprenticeship program. The ultimate goal of this role is to increase apprenticeship registrations and completions supported by new tools, resources and strategic case management/mentorship best practices.

Specifically, this position will be responsible for:

• Working collaboratively with the apprenticeship program team to collectively achieve project goals;
• Promoting the apprenticeship pathway to engage and recruit new entrant and incumbent workers, and employers, such as developing communication themes and recruitment strategies, presenting to target audiences, and representing the program at various events (travel will be involved), etc.;
• Supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures;
• Undertaking operational policies and procedures that are accurately and consistently implemented;
• Providing registration support services and acting as a point of contact and liaison with apprentices between the MLTSD, STO, TDA’s etc.;
• Supporting the implementation of the Mentorship & Case Management Framework, and the development and implementation of the Completion Service Strategy Framework;
• Working with the Apprenticeship team in troubleshooting and solving issues as they arise;
• Supporting the implementation and promotion of new tools and resources to target audiences, such as the Prior School Trade Readiness toolkit, the Training Tracker, Training Standard Orientation program, Apprentice Study Guide, Exam Preparation/Completion Toolkit, etc.
• Identifying areas for continuous improvement within the program;
• Applying a continuous improvement approach to all work so that the services and resources meet the needs of apprentices and employers;
• Completing administrative tasks related to apprentice files, and maintaining the LO Apprenticeship Program database;
• Maintaining communications with apprentices and employers to track/monitor progress;
• Supporting new entrant skills assessments and interview process to identify potential apprentices;
• Reporting registration and completion status/ performance;
• Undertaking all work with the utmost commitment to privacy and confidentiality;
• Other responsibilities as required.

The successful candidate will possess:

• Knowledge and experience within the landscape and horticulture sector, and/or the apprenticeship system in Ontario
• Post-secondary education/experience in Workforce Development, Apprenticeship Administration, Business Administration, Project Coordination, Horticulture, Environmental or related program;
• A minimum of three years of work experience in a successful project coordination role;
• Highly motivated with strong organizational, research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities;
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment;
• Demonstrated willingness to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities;
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills;
• Strong skills in managing and analyzing data with a strategic lens;
• Strong ability to proficiently use MS Office & Google Suite, Internet, database & design software programs, virtual platforms, and learn new computer skills;
• Discrete, ethical and committed to maintaining a high degree of confidentiality;
• A resourceful approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution;
• Strong organizational and program coordination skills;
• Strong collaboration and team participation skills;
• A desire to learn and grow;
• The ability to adapt and evolve with the needs of the project;
• Skilled in both official languages is an asset;
• A vehicle and a valid driver’s license;
• The ability to travel as required by the program.

Compensation:

Position 1: New full-time position: Annual salary range is $60,000 plus benefits. 1 Year Contract with opportunity to renew.

Position 2: Maternity Leave coverage April 2022- July 2023: Annual salary: $65,000 with no benefits

Location: Office is in Milton, Ontario

Reports to: These positions reports to the Apprenticeship Program Manager

Works directly with: Program staff, partners, employers, participants etc.
