Job Description:
The Student Engagement Coordinator (SEC) is a member of the Office for Student Engagement team, a sub-unit of the Department of Student Engagement and Athletics. This role is responsible for coordinating the development of a campus culture focused on student leadership, involvement, and service. Specific areas of focus include the development, coordination, and evaluation of new and existing campus-wide programs, workshops, events, providing timely front-line support for student issues or concerns, student involvement advising, and referral service to ensure that students locate and access the resources and support that they require. This role works in a team environment contributing to developing a culture of belonging and connection for Langara students. Evening and weekend work may be required.
This position will be responsible for coordinating the VOLT Student Volunteer Program and leading and/or supporting the creation and implementation of small and large-scale events that help students make a successful transition into (or back to) college and finding community. This includes, but not limited to New Student Orientation, Parent and Supporter Orientation, Semester Kickoff, VOLT Volunteer Fair and Club’s Day.
Reporting to the Manager, Student Engagement, the SEC works independently under general direction. The position works with teams of student employees and volunteers, often in a supervisory capacity. The incumbent works very close partnership with College staff and faculty, student organizations and student government (LSU), academic departments, and other Student Services departments to coordinate and deliver programming for first-year orientations and transitions, student leadership, volunteer and co-curricular programs that support the holistic development of students.
This role works collaboratively in support of the OSE’s vision to co-create an inclusive, highly engaged campus community where every student has access to a diverse range of meaningful learning experiences outside of the classroom where they are welcomed, engaged, and supported.
The following duties may be rotated among the Student Engagement Coordinators and the allocation and diversity of duties may vary, as assigned.
Education & Experience
Two-year diploma program related to business, education, public administration, or a related discipline
Minimum four (4) years of leadership and/or volunteer program development, planning, delivery, and evaluation of programs, events, and workshop experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Intermediate level of proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams).
Experience coordinating and hosting online meetings and events is preferred
Recent experience using an integrated information system (e.g. Banner), preferably in a post-secondary setting is an asset
Experience maintaining web pages using a content management system would be an asset.
Knowledge of the field of leadership development, volunteer management, student development and related literature and research an asset.

Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to keep up-to-date with current and emerging trends and best practices within the field of student engagement, orientation, and transitions, and event planning.
Experience in designing and delivering workshops, events and learning programs
Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive materials and information
An aptitude for learning new software and technology in a self-directed manner.
Ability to research, design, and present program information.
Ability to interpret and apply College, government, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
The ability to maintain web pages using a content management system
Working Conditions
Vacation requests may not be approved during peak periods.
Work schedule may be varied to accommodate the operational needs the department
Some weekends and/or week evenings may be required to assist with meetings, events, and other operational deadlines.
Physical requirements – Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., to assist with event set up and takedown
Position is not subject to the compressed work schedule.
