Summary: This position reports to the Controller and supports the Accounting team in the Brampton Corporate office. This position requires accounting expertise and the ability to provide accounting support to the fast-paced, deadline-driven finance team. This position contributes to ensuring a high quality, productive work environment. Must be able to interact with company management and internal customers in a productive and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, as required, may be assigned.
· Supports the day to day, transactional operations of the Accounting team servicing multiple business units located in Canada and United States.
· Supports the Accounting team in ensuring it meets and exceeds Company and customer expectations.
· Assists in the compilation and analysis of the full set of accounting statements, including cash flow statements, reconciling of balance sheet accounts, and maintenance of fixed asset sub-ledgers.
· Supports the management of and reports daily cash and prepares cash forecast, monitors collection activities.
· Assists with annual budget preparations, in collaboration with the VP of Finance, Controller, and Operations, and assists with consolidating the departmental budget into one, converted into US$.
· Supports the annual accounting audit and preparation of the required paperwork.
· Processes vendor’s credit applications.
· Processes HST filing, making sure input tax credits are calculated and claimed according to Legislative requirements.
· File and maintain proper records of USD state taxes and licenses for applicable jurisdiction.
· Helps with the billing of major cost-plus customers, completes reviews of supporting documents and prepares period end reports.
· Journalizes payroll registers for both Canadian and US payrolls in the general ledger, makes payroll remittances, and uploads payroll direct deposits to the bank.
· Participates in accounting projects, working closely with the Controller.
· Responsible for maintaining an accurate filing system for all accounting documents.
· Maintains a high degree of visibility and access to and builds strong professional working relationships with Operations.
· Lives up to internal controls and meets compliance with all established Finance/Accounting policies and procedures by internal customers.
· Interacts professionally with team members and acts as a positive role model, when appropriate.

· Working knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle, up to reporting according to GAAP and Financial Reporting Techniques in both Canada and the US

· Knowledge of Canadian CRA and US Internal Revenue Service Codes related to financial management and tax planning
· Knowledge of both Canadian and American federal, provincial and state laws and regulations related to financial management

Education and/or Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or equivalent experience
· Minimum 3-year level finance experience as an Accountant; preferably in distribution or transportation environments
· Experience working with a mid-sized North American company with geographically diverse sites and minimum revenue of $20 million
· Experience in a multi-currency environment is an asset
Computer Skills
Above average computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Windows-based systems, Excel spreadsheets, database and financial software is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
CPA registration and working toward Accreditation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Other Qualifications
Must pass background and reference checks. Some travel may be required (10-25%).
Work Environment
The work environment tends to be an office setting. Visit and work in other sites such as warehouses and transportation centers will occur occasionally. Compensation package
The total compensation package includes health benefits, PEL days, and vacation.
