London Cross Cultural Learner Centre Looking for Indigenous Peoples Educator at London, ON Full Time

Located in London, Ontario, the Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) provides settlement services and support to newcomers while promoting intercultural awareness and understanding. We are currently looking for an Indigenous Peoples Educator.

This is a permanent, full-time job opportunity.

The Indigenous Peoples Educator assists newcomers in understanding Indigenous Peoples history in Canada and the role of Indigenous communities. It also provides guidance to the CCLC on matters related to Indigenous culture and is accountable for program planning related to activities with an Indigenous focus.

Roles Responsibilities
Cultural Support Services (80%):

• Prepare and facilitate orientation sessions and workshops introducing Indigenous Peoples history and culture to newcomers and staff
• Support CCLC programs by creating and facilitating events educating youth, adults, and families on Indigenous culture
• Oversees all program planning related to Indigenous Peoples
• Prepare reports to funders on orientation session/workshop/event attendance and content
• Work with CCLC to ensure a culturally safe workplace for Indigenous employees
• Act as CCLC liaison, building relationships with local Indigenous communities

Other Duties (20%):

• Participate actively in all mandated training, staff meetings and workshops

• Maintain appropriate database records and files pertaining to settlement services provided to clients
• Ensure appropriate and confidential handling of all client information and files
• Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program and partner organizations
• Accept other duties as assigned

Qualifications*

• Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or related field
• Minimum of one to two years of experience in designing and implementing community outreach programs with an emphasis on Indigenous history and culture
• Ability to operate normal office equipment and to use MS Office programs
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal formats, and when interacting with both individuals and groups
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, CCLC staff, school staff and other partners, and establish cooperative relationships across various stakeholders
• Ability to prepare standard reports, forms, and program statistics
• Ability to provide trauma and violence informed care
• An appropriate level of proficiency in the principles and practices of newcomer services, group facilitation and community development
• Ability to handle conflicting priorities in a disrupted environment
• Ability to stay organized and prioritize work in a high volume, and in a deadline-oriented environment
• Ability to work with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds and commitment to inclusion
• Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Persons Police Check
• Possess a driver’s license and a vehicle and ability to travel outside the city
