London Cross Cultural Learner Centre Looking for Wellbeing Counsellor at London, ON Full Time

Located in London, Ontario, the Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) provides settlement services and support to newcomers while promoting intercultural awareness and understanding. We are currently looking for a Wellbeing Counsellor position.

The Wellbeing Counsellor works with newcomer individuals and their families to assist them with short-term crisis intervention and referrals to mental health services as required, and to identify and prioritize their settlement and integration needs. The Wellbeing Counsellor works in concert with other agency staff, volunteers and external partners to provide services using a client- centered approach. The CCLC Wellbeing Counsellor, as part of the Orientation Services for Newcomers team, works to provide appropriate wrap around supports to clients, designed to aid their resettlement and integration into the community.

Roles Responsibilities
Client Services (80%):

• Provide culturally responsive services and support to newcomers including intake and assessment using a coordinated case management approach
• Provides culturally responsive services and support to clients with a broad range of mental and emotional health issues
• Inform and orient clients about settlement-related issues
• Provide orientation sessions, workshops, and group counselling on mental wellness, stress management, anxiety, depression and trauma
• Facilitate referrals and access to available resources in the community, social services, professional services and government programs
• Works with clients and community groups to diminish social isolation and promote participation in community networks and activities
• Provide crisis intervention and support as required
• Provide short term trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral treatment
• Provide individual, couples and family counselling
• Develop and implement short term and long term treatment plans
• Arranges for and follows up on referrals to specialized services
• Advocate on client’s behalf when appropriate to other service providers
• Provide outreach services to new clients and families
• Organize and provide other support groups as needed
• Communicates effectively with other CCLC staff and caregivers to ensure optimum care within the boundaries of confidentiality and appropriate disclosure

Other Duties (20%):

• Participate actively in all mandated training, staff meetings and workshops
• Maintain and submit accurate tracking documents and monthly reporting updates to the supervisor
• Maintain appropriate database records and files pertaining to settlement services provided to clients
• Ensure appropriate and confidential handling of all client information and files
• Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program and partner organizations
• Accept other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• The minimum level of education required is a current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or currently registered in good standing as a Psychologist in Ontario

• Minimum of three year of experience in in mental health services working with adults, children youth & seniors and working in partnerships with other health and community agencies
• High level of proficiency in MS Office
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal formats, and when interacting with both individuals and groups
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, CCLC staff, school staff and other partners, and establish cooperative relationships across various stakeholders
• Ability to read and authenticate client documents
• Ability to prepare standard reports, forms, and program statistics
• Ability to provide trauma and violence informed care
• Ability to demonstrate anti-oppressive practices
• Appropriate level of proficiency in the principles and practices of mental health services, crisis counselling and case management
• Ability to handle conflicting priorities in a disrupted environment
• Ability to stay organized and prioritize work in a high volume, and in a deadline-oriented environment
• Ability to work with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds and commitment to inclusion
• Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Persons Police Check
