What To Expect

As part of the Finance & Accounting team, the Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day transactions, including accounts payable and general ledger maintenance and acting as backup for payroll and accounts receivable.

Their primary responsibility is ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting under the supervision of the VP Finance. With an appetite for working smart instead of working hard, the Accountant will play a supporting role in the optimization of the ERP, and establish themselves as the ERP superuser.

We are looking for someone who enjoys making sense out of chaos, works well with others, and has an attention to detail and orderliness. Coaching and career development are available to candidates who wish to use this role as a launch pad to more senior Accounting and Finance positions.

This position is based in Montreal and is hybrid, working in the Longbow office two days a week.

Once you join our team, you will be responsible for…

50%: Maintenance of Accounting cycle (including tax filings)

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by recording transactions in the general ledger
• Prepare journal entries for routine financial transactions
• Reconcile and post entries for prepaids, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger accounts
• Reconcile bank statements to the general ledger; investigate and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare and maintain balance sheets to ensure accuracy of financial position; identify and address discrepancies.
• Prepare regular (sales, VAT) tax filings

15%: Quarterly & Year-end activities

• Assists in preparing financial statements (standalone & consolidated)
• Transfer pricing: management fees & royalties
• Primary point of contact of YE audit
• Prepares tax documentation for the income tax return preparation by 3rd party

15%: Cost analysis

• Generate and distribute monthly departmental reports (actuals to budget, variance analysis) to relevant stakeholders
• Monthly analysis on credit card spend

20%: Ad-hoc projects

• Assist the Controller in various projects, including but not limited to:
• Testing and implementing the Accounting module improvements, supported by Gurus and the Controller
• Complete trainings so as to be Netsuite & Expensify superuser
• Follows procedures for timely month-end close in 5 days or less
• Ad hoc analysis and reporting

Skills & Experience Needed

• 3 years experience in finance industry required
• B.Comm, Major in Accountancy a requirement; working towards a CPA designation a plus
• Experience in a fast-paced environment like start-ups
• Experience with ERPs (preferably Netsuite) and proficient in Excel
• Experience in multi-companies, multi-currencies & multi-countries organization
• Knowledge of the accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)
• Demonstrated track-record in customer service and team-work

Salary:

• $70,000k + 5% bonus
