About the job

We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented Accounting Technician to join our growing team. The Accounting Technician will be responsible for analyzing information, maintaining complete and accurate records, assisting with routine accounting duties, and providing prompt, courteous responses to inquiries or questions from team members, clients, vendors, and other departments. You should also be a skilled researcher and possess strong communication and computer skills.

To succeed as an Accounting Technician, you should be committed to providing efficient, reliable support to accounting department members, other departments, and external parties. You should be trustworthy, thorough, and courteous with excellent time management skills.

This role is hybrid.
Responsibilities:

• Perform all accounts payable processes and perform associated accounts payables functions including entering payables, weekly payment runs, setting up online payments for approval, reconciliation of internal credit cards and vendor statements, and communicating with vendors
• Assist the Accounting Manager in the monthly inventory costing process.
• Prepare and post general journal entries to assist with the month-end close process.
• Maintain accurate and complete records, including ledgers, journals, invoices, receipts, and information related to supplies and inventory.
• Correspond with vendors and suppliers to ensure charges are accurate and that payments are received in a timely manner.
• Manage US sales taxes and Canadian HST by verifying monthly returns and ensuring company records remain compliant with changing legislation.
• Analyze and verify invoices to identify any errors and/or over-billing.
• Liaise with procurement and logistics teams on the status of active purchase orders.
• Audit inventory counts on inbound shipments.
• Assist the Accounting Manager with accounting-related tasks and or special assignments as requested.
• Maintain all accounting files in an organized and efficient manner including digital records.
• Follow all audit control-related processes and requests per company policies.
• Assist the Finance department in daily, monthly, and annual activities, including generating financial reports, developing budgets, preparing taxes, and assisting with audits and resolving discrepancies.
• All other duties as required.

Required skills:

• 2-3 years of experience in a similar role
• Strong data entry and accounts payable skills
• Possess an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Experienced in inventory costing
• Multi-task effectively while remaining detail-oriented and accurate
• Work independently as well as in a team environment
• Strong analytical aptitude with excellent attention to details
• Operate under pressure and meet deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google G-Suite products, with expert knowledge of Excel
• Experience with QuickBooks is a must and Shopify is an asset
• Team player who works effectively with limited supervision

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
