Location & Hours:
This role will be based out of the Cranbrook B.C. headquarters office. The shift schedule is generally Monday through Friday but could vary depending on the job location and with flexibility for weekends based on client requirements. This position will involve travel out to the jobsites. There may be occasion(s) where overtime may be required but is not expected to make up a major component of the role.
Responsibilities & Duties:
This position consists of performing tasks involving physical labour at construction projects. It also consists of operating hand and power tools of all types, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, settling braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up rubble and debris, and possibly removing hazardous waste materials. This role reports to the General Foreman or designate.
Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
Assist Traffic Controllers with traffic passing near, in, or around work zones
Perform general fuel and lube on equipment
Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers and/or rakes
Erect and/or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades ramps or other temporary structures
Load, unload or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
Measure, mark or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete using saws, hammers, nails and/or bolts
Mix, pour and/or spread materials
Position, join, align, or seal structural components, such a concrete wall sections or pipes
Assist lead pipelayer during utilities installations
Confined space entry/concrete grouting
Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement or adjustment of machinery, equipment and/or materials
Daily completion and submission of daily timecards
Daily completion and submission of FLHA reports
Qualifications & Skills:
Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing job tasks
Able to operate a variety of hand and power tools
Able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.)
