Profile

Our Knowledge to Action (KTA) team is responsible for ensuring March of Dimes Canada (MODC) is an organization that is focused on integrating evidence-based research in the services and programs offered to people with disabilities and their families. We are looking for a highly skilled, inquisitive, and passionate Research Assistant to join our team part-time on a 1-year contract.

The position is responsible for supporting research and the sharing of knowledge within MODC. The Research Assistant will support a multi-year research project examining digital skill development for youth living with disabilities. The aim of the research project is to create more inclusive employment opportunities as youth and young adults transition from school into the workplace.

The successful candidate will be expected to support all aspects of the project, including completing ethics applications, conducting literature reviews, supporting recruitment and data collection, assisting in data analysis, writing reports, and supporting the development of various knowledge translation products and activities.

The Research Assistant will report to the Manager of Research & Knowledge Translation, while working closely with other KTA team members on the project. It is expected that the successful candidate has some experience in research methodologies and integrated knowledge translation approaches. This role is ideal for graduate students looking to gain research experience while completing their degree, with opportunities to complete data analysis and have authorship on resulting academic publications, reports and presentations. The RA will also have opportunities to support other research and knowledge translation projects within the KTA team.

Responsibilities

• Conducting literature searches and reviews.
• Supporting the development of research protocols and ethics applications, as needed.
• Assisting in participant recruitment and obtaining informed consent.
• Scheduling, preparing materials and providing other support for advisory committee meetings and engagements.
• Scheduling and preparing for data collection activities (qualitative and quantitative).
• Assisting in data analysis (qualitative and quantitative data).
• Assisting in the development and editing of presentations, reports, manuscripts, etc. for internal and external audiences.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications And Experience

• Undergraduate degree in social sciences, disability studies, public policy, or research
• Currently enrolled in a graduate program in social science, disability studies, public policy is an asset.
• Working knowledge of research methods (qualitative and quantitative).
• Some experience working in a research or academic environment or on a variety of research projects is preferred.
• Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Experience working within a team.
• Excellent communication (verbal, written) skills.
• Demonstrated project coordination skills.
• Experience with research specific software (NVivo, Qualtrics, Zotero) considered an asset.
• Experience working with youth or people living with disabilities is an asset
• High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.
