Position Summary
- Prepare different types of gold nanoparticles and their dispersions in liquid crystals.
- Perform synthesis and characterization of gold nanoparticles of different sizes and shapes with polymer or mesogenic ligands.
- Analyze NMR spectroscopy and UV-vis spectroscopy.
- Disperse the characterized nanoparticles in a liquid crystal and modifying the ligands if agglomeration occurs.
- Maintain records of lab work in a notebook and periodically write reports summarizing results.
Qualifications
Three completed years of Organic Chemistry lecture and lab courses, the first level Analytical and Physical Chemistry (thermodynamics) courses. Should be enrolled in second level Analytical (instrumental) and Physical Chemistry (quantum
chemistry and spectroscopy) courses. Experience and education: Undergraduate Chemistry Major with specialization in Materials and/or Biophysical Chemistry and/or Chemical Physics.
