Position Summary:
The Teaching Assistant will assist with the preparation of the course material, leading discussions, supervising individual projects, office hours, answering inquiries, providing feedback on the presentations. The TA will also support in class sessions and assess students’ work related to course objectives.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of the QEP (Elementary and Secondary, the revised Professional Competencies, E-Portfolio Development, Ethics and Law for Teachers, McGill’s myCourses system, and experience teaching or tutoring.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The TA will be invited to attend instructor’s meetings to develop a sense of what the students will be learning and producing.
The TA will have an opportunity to co-teach and co-plan sections of the course.
The TA will be responsible for grading reading responses, oral presentations and e-portfolios.
As per collective agreement 2.11 A teaching assistant is a Graduate student at the Master’s or Doctoral level employed to assist a Course Supervisor as a Teaching Assistant or Demonstrator.

Please note that given the resumption of in-person teaching activities, most courses will be taught in person. Exams may however need to be administered remotely depending, mainly on the size of the class. Teaching Assistants and Course Lecturers will be required to plan accordingly. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Teaching Assistants and Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Teaching Assistants and COURSE Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) . Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
