Hours / week: Up to 5 hours per week
Compensation: Hourly rate: Undergraduate student- $18/h; Master’s student – $20/h; PhD student – $23/h + 4% vacation indemnity
Duration: January 3, 2023 – May 13, 2023
Position Context
Teaching and Learning Services is seeking 5 currently registered undergraduate or graduate McGill students to become part-time Tutors to assist with the Stay on Track program. The Stay on Track program supports students from all McGill undergraduate Faculties and Schools. Reporting directly to the Stay on Track Program Coordinator your duties are to assist students registered to the Stay on Track program university-wide. Winter 2023 activities will be a combination of in-person and online activities.
Mandatory Training
As part of the student’s learning, the Tutor will be provided technical training as listed below:
- Paid Training sessions;
- Attending bi-weekly meetings (one hour every two weeks) with peer tutors to follow-up on day to day activities of the program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Attend mandatory training sessions;
- Attend bi-weekly one-hour “staff” meetings;

Participate in one on-one coaching sessions with students registered to the Stay on Track program (number of sessions per week are determined by number of students registered to the program);
- The content of the coaching sessions is supporting students’ academic success (learning skills in conjunction with wellness practices).
- Facilitate group sessions
Job Requirements/Minimum Education/ Experience
- To be eligible for this job, you must have access to a computer and high-speed internet, webcam and microphone;
- Must be able to present yourself on campus for in-person activities;
- Must be registered as an undergraduate or graduate student at McGill for the Winter 2023 term;
- Must be able to work in Canada and have a valid SIN number.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Students applying should indicate knowledge/experience in any of the following areas:
- Organization and time management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to support multiple students
- Familiarity with web conferencing technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)
